Cordelia and her friend really enjoyed Ghostbusters (Scott did, too, but that’s less important). Cordelia commented that the villain wasn’t at all memorable, that he seemed very bleh. I haven’t seen the movie, of course, but I think it may be that she’s simply never encountered anyone like that and doesn’t really believe that anyone would be like that.

Scott is still trying to figure out our internet situation. Apparently there’s something about our location that means that most services aren’t available to us. We’re in a reasonably large university town and actually, you know, in town, so I’m puzzled by that. ACD said they could only give us 2 to 3 mbs out of the 6 that they advertised. Earthlink says we can’t upgrade at all because of where we are. AT&T says they can’t do internet here at all. That leaves Comcast which… No.

We’re getting between 0.5 and 1.5 mbs from Earthlink, so ACD would be better, just a bit. ACD would also actually be cheaper, especially with the bundled phone, but Scott decided not to work with them when they wouldn’t offer a discount for the lower level of service. I’m not convinced that this is the right decision.

Scott also bought some sort of antenna thingy for the TV that turned out not to work at all well and, naturally, pulled chunks off of the wall when he took it down to send back. He really doesn’t want to put an antenna on the roof, but he thinks that’s the only option at this point. He’s also upset because he thought we’d be able to get sufficient broadcast signal to watch at least a little bit of the Olympics. He tried streaming, but there were so many commercials that he ran through his entire free sample period without seeing any actual content.

Apparently, I forgot to put lunchmeat on the grocery list. Scott packed some leftovers for lunch which I think means we’ll need to cook tonight. We still have lots of the pulled pork with schwarma sauce, but I’m the only one of the three of us who can eat it. I think all we’ve got that we could easily cook is turkey burgers. I think we might have some dry beans. Maybe I can find a recipe for those in the pressure cooker or the crock pot. I’ve got about eleven hours before we’d want to eat. I have no idea if that would be enough. Don’t dry beans need to be soaked overnight? Off to Google.

I’m tracking what I eat so that I have something to show the nutritionist when I see her at the end of the month. I don’t have an easy way to measure amounts, though, not when I’m eating something like the tag ends of three different Chinese carry out dishes all mixed together. One thing that I’m definitely seeing is that I drink a lot of water (mostly because of constant dry mouth from medications). I suppose that’s a good thing.

I’m also trying to make a list of the various factors that affect what I can/can’t eat. I’m not actually convinced that seeing a nutritionist will be useful, given all of the factors I’m juggling. It’s certainly not at all a straightforward sort of thing and will require more than cookie cutter consideration.

I couldn’t get back to sleep after Scott got up this morning, so I ended up just getting up around 6:30. It’s far from ideal, and I’m hoping I can nap later. I’m not set up to function on five and a half hours of sleep (or whatever it is that I actually got).

Okay. I couldn’t find the bag of beans I’m sure we’ve got, but I did find some red lentils. Online pressure cooker recipes seem to indicate that those cook really fast. I have to think about how to season them, though. Scott would put in onions, but I’m not enthusiastic about that, mostly from a time/effort point of view. We have some minced garlic and minced ginger in the fridge, but Cordelia won’t eat things if there’s enough of either for her to taste.

I can get away with rosemary, dill, sage, and thyme. Thyme always tastes vaguely of dirt to me, though, so I hesitate to use it a lot. Winter savory would be good, too, but I don’t have a plant this year. I think we have some bay leaves, but they’re older than Cordelia, so I rather doubt they’d provide any flavor at all, and I don’t really want to try to fish them out again later.

Before I married Scott, I used to make regular lentils with cinnamon as a savory flavor (it actually can be), but Scott said he wouldn’t eat lentils. I have no idea why he bought these, given that. Maybe twenty years is long enough for him to be willing to try them again.

I’m kind of worried about producing another large quantity of food that only I can/will eat.

Huh. I did a bunch more writing today, but I’ve reached the point with this project (which might actually be two projects) where I’m not prepared to go further until I let things stew for a while. I still feel like I could write, but I’m not at all sure what to work on. I’ve got so many WIP that I could pick up that it’s hard to choose.

My guess is that the Harry Potter darkfic AU or one of my Narnia fics would be most likely to find readers, and the Narnia stories are going to be easier to complete, mostly because the Harry Potter AU is going to be really, really long.

Then again, I have a Weiss Kreuz thing that I might be able to finish that I was writing for someone else’s prompt. I haven’t figured out where it’s going yet, however, so I’d be wandering around in search of an ending.

And I had that idea something like two weeks back about how to break my block on the Rurouni Kenshin AU. I haven’t done anything with that.

Or I could try to pick up Rheotaxis again. That’s been sitting for so long that I’m sure readers assume it’s dead.

I count fifteen different WIP on my laptop. I could, at least in theory, pick up any of them.

ETA: I've narrowed it down to nine options, but I sort of think I'm not going to actually open any of the documents tonight. Four of them are things I might, in theory, actually be able to finish if I give them enough of a push. The others are all novel length at least. I'm kind of more interested in the novel length stuff, but finishing something is very, very appealing, too.
