Scott is not working today. He was sufficiently worried about getting called in, however, to put the phones where we couldn’t easily hear or answer them.

I kind of wilted mid-afternoon yesterday and ended up trying to nap. Then, because I had a tired headache, I had a piece of chocolate cake and more coffee. The cake helped pretty much instantly, so I assume there was some sort of blood sugar thing going on. I also had some oyster crackers with garlic spread. By dinner time, I was at that point where doing anything much to prepare food was more than I could manage. Scott and Cordelia kept nagging me to eat and couldn’t seem to understand that I really just couldn’t.

Scott and I went out and did a little Ingress after about 9:00. We’d have gone earlier, but Cordelia put a movie in that we didn’t want to walk out on. We took back six of the local portals. There are eight that we didn’t touch, four because we didn’t go that way and four because we’d have had to tramp around in the woods in the dark.

I got up earlier this morning than I’d hoped to because Scott woke at 7:00 and ended up waking me in the process. When he realized I was awake, he started rubbing my back which was very nice but meant that I absolutely couldn’t get back to sleep.

I think I’ll be going grocery shopping with Scott this afternoon. I’m hoping, too, that we can donate Cordelia’s old toy shelf. She wants it gone so that we can put in a bookshelf. My guess is that Scott and I will go to donate that then go to the library and then do the groceries. The places we donate to are way on the other side of town, and the library is, theoretically, on the way there or the way back. The groceries being last just basically makes sense so that nothing melts or goes bad. We’ve got ice cream on the list, so it matters.

I’ve got an interlibrary loan book due next week that can’t be renewed. I’ve only read a few paragraphs of the introduction. I really need to sit down and try to read enough of it to know if I want to read more. I have three other books that can’t be renewed, but none of them are due until the beginning of September, so I feel less urgent on them.

I’ve got a bunch of library DVDs to watch, two largish sets, one an anime series and one a bunch of Marx Brothers movies. The anime series has a waitlist, so I need to give it higher priority. Right at the moment, the idea of watching a DVD is very, very unappealing. I’m hoping that a really solid couple of nights of sleep will help with that.

Apparently my parents have already returned to Baton Rouge. I wouldn’t have known except that I just got an email from my mother telling me not to worry, that they’re fine, that their house is fine, that they can reach the grocery stores just fine. They just barely made it home ahead of the highway closures. My step-father’s office is in a part of campus that isn’t flooded, but he can’t get there because there’s flooding between where they live and his office.

I ended up trying to nap most of the morning and in that state where I was almost asleep but not quite able to reach sleep. At this point, I’ve given up on that and am just living with the kind of tired headachiness.

Scott freaked out a little when I suggested donating the toy shelf today. He seemed to feel that adding that to our errands meant that we had to leave instantly and that he couldn’t take time for anything else. At this point, I’m pretty sure we’ve got at least three hours before the PTO Thrift Shop closes (I haven’t looked it up), and they might well be open later than that. It might take us five minutes to load the car and half an hour to get there. The library’s open until 6:00, so we can do that after and then the groceries. The only deadline on the groceries is when the pharmacy closes which is something else I need to look up. The selection of food available tends to decrease later in the evening, but I don’t think we’re planning to get anything that will disappear altogether.

Okay, the pharmacy and the PTO Thrift Shop both close at 5:00. I have one singulair tablet left, so I don’t absolutely need the prescription until tomorrow, but I don’t want to put it off and discover, at the last minute, that I have to get myself out to Kroger to pick it up because Scott is unexpectedly working late. I mean, the pharmacy is open until 9:00 on weekdays, so Scott could get there even after working until 7:00. It’s just a lot to ask of him at that point.
