Cordelia wants to read my journal. I've told her she can but that she'll find it boring. She's read an entry or two and says she wants to read more, but I think it is boring for her. I mean, I don't talk about any great secrets or surprising events. My days, by and large, are the same things over and over. I'm kind of surprised that anybody reads my journal.

This morning, I was awakened about nine by a phone call. I was at least half expecting it, so I didn't mind too much. I'd invited [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl to bring her younger daughter over here to play with Cordelia. I knew she'd need to drop her daughter off relatively early because she was scheduled to work. She dropped her daughter off about 9:30, so that she could be at work by 10:00 (she works part time and needs to put in about six hours today).

The girls have asked if they can go sledding, but I said no. The last time I checked the National Weather Service website, it said the windchill was still -19 F, and that's too cold for sledding. I might let them out in the backyard for ten minutes or so to make a snowman if that appealed to them (it doesn't), but it would take them ten minutes to get to the hill for sledding, and they'd want to be out at least half an hour and then have ten minutes to come back. That's too long in this cold weather.

We need to take our Christmas tree down soon. My family always did it on the 6th of January, but we haven't really developed a tradition like that. Cordelia wants to leave the tree up as long as possible, and Scott's sufficiently tired after a day of work that taking the tree down sounds utterly unappealing. My family always made a party out of taking the tree down. It wasn't as big a deal as putting the tree up, but there were cookies, and we got to eat the chocolate ornaments (I haven't been able to find chocolate ornaments since we started doing a large tree. I don't know if that means I'm looking in the wrong places (Target and Meier's) or if they just don't make them any more). Maybe Cordelia will be more interested in taking the tree down if I make more fudge and let her invite a friend over.

Making it a mini-party sounds like a good way to get the tree-taking-down started...

You can still get the chocolate ornaments, but I don't know of anywhere local any more. I you would almost have to order them online, unless you get really lucky to find them in store. I know that the Vermont Country Store (again, not local) carries them, but beyond that I am out of ideas.

We ended up getting the tree down this week. S really likes to decorate the house for Christmas and I usually handle the dining room table part. Well, he likes to keep all of the boxes for the ornaments and put everything carefully back up, so I've let him handle it. He got the ornaments off over the weekend, I think, and got the tree upstairs yesterday night.

chocolate ornaments sounds like fun! If I ever get a tree, I want some.
I hope they still make them.
