Jan. 14th, 2014 04:00 pmMy dental appointment went pretty much as expected. The dentist isn't sure why my tooth chipped yesterday, but she smoothed out the spot where it did so that it won't irritate my tongue. She did reiterate that I need to wear my bite splint. I think that was all she could think of that might cause the sort of chipping I've got.
From the dentist, I walked to Totoro. I stopped along the way and bought a candy bar to break a twenty so that I'll have cab money for Thursday. At Totoro, I had the salmon teriyaki bento. I had a little difficulty eating the salmon with chopsticks. My hands were shaking pretty badly, as they often do, and the salmon wasn't at all flaky.
From there, I walked to the library. I fell about halfway there, slipped on the ice. I was more shaken than hurt, thank goodness. I did twist my foot a bit, but I was able to walk on it, and it doesn't hurt too badly now, two and a half hours later. The sidewalks were relatively bad through most of the walking I did today, even though most of it was in commercial or university space. I came near to falling three or four other times.
A third hold had come in at the library since I last checked, so I picked that up, too. I didn't return anything because I had decided that I didn't want to carry that heavy bag all that way. I think it's just as well that I didn't try to take it. Walking on the icy sidewalks was hard enough without something heavy to manage.
I got home with just enough time to spare to call and arrange our cabs for Thursday. Then I did my usual exercise programs, Body Electric and Sit and Be Fit (I can't do all of Body Electric. Anything down on the floor is beyond me, and I usually have to stop midway through a given exercise to rest and stretch).
Cordelia is just back from her day of winter survival training. The kids learned how to build fires, and they cooked their own lunches over those fires. Cordelia says her teacher told everybody to wash their coats if they could to get rid of the smoke smell. We'll do Cordelia's tonight, after Scott's had his shower. Or maybe we'll do it tomorrow. Scott might need to wash his uniforms tonight, and that would take precedence.

Date: 2014-01-14 09:31 pm (UTC)As for the ice, yeah. I am surprised at how much there is. It's very frustrating, since I slipped today outside Plum Market. You would think they would have their areas de-iced, but ... no. I didn't fall, but I was sliding around it for a moment or two. Glad you aren't too badly hurt.

Date: 2014-01-14 10:02 pm (UTC)A good friend who's now my sister-in-law taught me (and Scott) how to use chopsticks. I try to do it when I'm eating somewhere that defaults to them, and Totoro does. You have to ask specifically to get a fork. It's usually fine and not a big deal. I was just extra shaky today. I did cheat and eat my tempura with my fingers. I knew I'd never manage it with chopsticks, not today. Usually, I have the teriyaki chicken which comes sliced, and that's easier to manage than the salmon which came as a single chunk.
