the_rckThere was some noise about possibly closing school today if the wind chill got bad enough. According to the weather report that was going on when my clock radio went off, the wind chill is -13 F. School closes at -20 F. Walking Cordelia to school, I didn't feel any wind, but it was really quite cold. My scarf didn't help much with breathing, and I really felt the lack of a hat. I have a hood, but there's no way to snug it down around my head, so there's a gap between it and the top of my head. Usually it doesn't matter, but today it does.
I have dug out my heavier gloves and a hat for when I go out later. I wish my new boots had arrived. They'll be warmer than my current boots. These have good traction and are sturdy enough that they'll last for a decade or two, but they're not very warm. I'll continue to wear them when I need to do a lot of walking on slippery surfaces, I expect. We ordered new boots in hopes of getting something that's easier to put on and take off. Being warmer is just a pleasant side effect.
It's about eight minutes to the bus stop, and I'll have to wait at least five minutes for the bus, longer if it's running late. If school had been cancelled, I'd have had to cancel this appointment because I'd have three kids to watch again. If it were just Cordelia, I'd consider paying for a cab there and back, but with two extra, that wouldn't work.
