My laptop is acting up. Basically, I can't operate it with the battery in. We tried switching in a new battery, and the problem returned. There's something wrong with my track pad so that it clicks on things I don't intend. It was highlighting large swathes of text, moving text and windows around, clicking on things I didn't intend to click on and generally being impossible to operate. Without the battery in, I can operate as long as I'm very careful to keep the power cord connected. Scott's looking into fixes, but so far none of the ones he's found are going to be simple.

I should mention that my laptop is years out of warranty. We will not be taking it to the Apple Store if we can at all avoid it.
