The weather here is nasty. The 'snow' is currently coming down as ice pellets. We allowed extra time to get to Cordelia's indoor soccer game this morning, but it didn't take us nearly as long as we expected to get there. There was basically nobody on the roads. We arrived during the third quarter of the game before Cordelia's. That was a couple of boys teams. I have no idea what age they were, but I doubt they were younger than third grade. Several of the boys had tennis shoes that were bright orange.

Cordelia's game started on time. Neither team had many players. Both teams had one more player than they absolutely needed, and both teams had one more player arrive in the middle of the game. Cordelia's coach was switching people in and out every couple of minutes. It almost seemed like that was all he was doing.

The other team had a good passing game, much better than Cordelia's team. The game ended in a tie, I think, so Cordelia's team didn't do too badly, but it looked throughout most of the game like the other team played better.

We stopped for bubble tea and at the library on the way home. Bubble Island is still closed. There's now a sign that says it will reopen March 10th. At Momo Tea, Cordelia declined to go inside, so I went in and bought her a strawberry tea and myself a mint milk tea (I figured it was early enough in the day that I could handle the extra caffeine).

Scott and I wanted to go out for lunch, but Cordelia wanted to change into pants before going anywhere. Given that, we just had lunch at home. Going out again seemed unwise.

When we got home, I found an e-mail from Rec & Ed saying that all events after 1 p.m. were to be canceled. I suppose we should be glad we didn't get across town only to discover that Cordelia's game had been canceled.

Scott has gone out to do grocery shopping and to get rid of the mouse he live trapped. I'm not sure that live trapping our mice is really the way to go-- They're pretty sure to die once Scott releases them in the park he's picked. They've got no shelter or food. Scott thinks it's more humane, however. I think he didn't want to deal with guilt over dead mice.

The one good thing about catching one is that Cordelia took a good look at it and decided she's not scared of them any more. She was surprised by how small it was. Scott was surprised to catch one as he didn't put any bait in the trap.

When we got a persistent infestation of mice one year, pooping everywhere and getting into our food supplies, I got surprisingly bloodthirsty about the whole thing. After reading about the horrors of having them die in glue traps or old-style traps, and releasing them in a park two blocks from the house and then finding out that they can return from up to a quarter mile away, I ended up using a combination of poison bait (the only pets we had were rabbits who were restricted to one room away from the kitchen, where the mice were) and catching them and doing away with them ... myself. I got good at it. It was sad and awful, and I'm glad we haven't had any serious infestations again.

They are indeed very tiny.

I've heard animal removal experts say that live-trapping and releasing unwanted animal pests is just passing your problem on to someone else. For whatever that is worth. :-S
