Feb. 19th, 2014 01:07 pmI don't generally do reading Wednesdays, but I'm kind of interested in seeing what I'm currently reading. I know I've started and stalled out on a lot of books. A list seems like it would make the books more real and maybe motivate me to pick one of them up again.
Blackwood, Sage. Jinx. This is surprisingly readable. I'm about a third of the way into it. I stopped because the main character is about to get into trouble. I know that it's necessary in order for the story to move forward, but I have trouble facing it.
Chainani, Soman. The School for Good and Evil. I keep picking this one up at bedtime and reading a few chapters. I like the character who's been sent to the school for good. I have less patience for the character who's been sent to the school for evil. She's silly and selfish. Neither of them deserve to be stuck in a world of absolutes. The whole thing seems not particularly good for anybody.
Harris, Charlaine. Grave Sight. I like the narrator of this one. The style is very readable. I'm just not sure about the supporting cast. The book needs to get entangled with all of these other people, and I'm not interested in them.
Jemsin, N.K. Kingdom of Gods. This is another Mark Reads book. It's more work than The Westing Game because it's not something I'd read on my own. I have to steel myself for each new chapter because I know it's going to hurt.
Kontis, Alethea. Enchanted. I think this is my third time checking this one out from the library. I really want to finish it, but I can't seem to make myself pick it up again. There's no good reason for that. I was enjoying it when I stopped. I like the style enough that I added the sequel to my list of books I want to read. I just don't know.
Raskin, Ellen. The Westing Game. This is a reread, and I'm likely to finish the book. I'm following along with Mark Reads at the rate of two chapters a day. I got the audiobook for Scott, but he's unlikely to get to it before Mark finishes the book.
Reichs, Kathy. Bare Bones. I barely started this one. I'm not sure it's going to work for me. I seem to be more on the cozy side of mysteries, and this one isn't. I like humor.
Pierce, Tamora. Battle Magic. I keep renewing this one in hopes that I'll pick it up again. I just can tell that it's going to be painful. I may have to give up and come back to this one later.

Date: 2014-02-20 03:51 pm (UTC)If I do go on, I'll have an interesting time figuring out what order the books go in. For some reason, my library did away with all series numbering in their catalog records. That means guessing based on date of publication and hoping that they didn't buy a reissue and that there aren't any years with two books.

Date: 2014-02-20 06:01 pm (UTC)I don't know if this is a plus or a minus--it's neutral for me--but the only recurring characters between books are Harper, Tolliver, and a few of their relatives (who tend to mostly be just referred to). Apparently part of the reason the series is only four books is that Harris found it too much work to have different towns/supporting characters for each book.
But in case it becomes relevant, the order is Grave Sight, Grave Surprise, An Ice-Cold Grave (I think that's the exact title? The ice one that breaks the pattern, anyway), and Grave Secret.
