Feb. 25th, 2014 01:56 pmYesterday, Scott and I went to lunch at Cafe Marie. Scott couldn't think of any place he wanted to go more, so that's what we did. We both had cherry chicken sandwiches. We got onion rings and sweet potato fries to share. We also, unusually for us, got coke to drink. (I had a headache and wanted the caffeine. I didn't have any options for it at home because all we have is diet coke (Scott drinks it) which I can't have because I have issues with both aspartame and sucralose. We used to keep regular coke in the house for days when I need it, but I'm trying to cut out things like that so that I stop gaining weight (I want my clothes to continue to fit). I'm at a loss as to what to do when I need caffeine in the middle of the day. I can't have more coffee because one tin just gets me through a week. An extra cup would leave me without at the end of the week. I have reflux issues with black tea and can't drink it without a lot of honey anyway.)
Around two, Scott went for his eye exam. I did Body Electric and Sit and Be Fit for the first time in a week. I'm going to have to learn to do them whether Cordelia's home or not. I can't afford to spend the summer not doing them.
They dilated Scott's eyes, so our afternoon plans ended up on hold while his eyes recovered. Just getting home from the appointment was apparently challenging, even with sunglasses. Cordelia was eager to get going so that she could get her cell phone, so she kept asking Scott if his eyes were better yet.
It was six by the time Scott could see well enough to drive safely, so we went to dinner first. We went to Red Lobster (Scott's other choice, Blue Nile, is closed on Mondays). Cordelia wanted to get the phones first, but we talked her into dinner first. Scott had shrimp and lobster, and unfortunately, it disagreed with him. He's currently not feeling at all well. He thinks he may need to avoid shellfish now as well as avoiding beef. I will hope that issues with shellfish don't get nearly so bad as the problem with beef. This means we have a lot fewer restaurants on our places-to-go-for-special-occasions list.
The Verizon store is quite close to Red Lobster. We got there about half an hour before it closed. Scott upgraded to a iPhone. The salesman tried to talk him out of it, but Scott was determined. We're an all Mac family, so an iPhone makes sense. Cordelia got a Motorola razor (or something like that). It was last year's model, so it was free with a two year contract. We were going to look at phones for me. My current one is fine for what I use it for, but it doesn't hold a charge as well as it used to. I don't, however, want a smart phone. I hate touch screens, and what on earth would I do with a smart phone that I can't do better with my laptop? I'm at home 90% of the time, and the other 10%, I'm too busy to fiddle with a phone. At any rate, flip phones are now really expensive, so we didn't do more than look.
Scott still needs to go back to get his contacts and such transferred from his old phone to his new one. We kept the salesman at the store half an hour past closing time as it was, and he said the transfer would take another half an hour. We wanted to get Cordelia home to bed.
Cordelia has three phone numbers on her phone right now, me, Scott and Scott's parents' home phone. She called Scott's parents last night to inaugurate her phone. We're not allowing her to take her phone to school. She hasn't objected to that, fortunately.
I'm still readjusting to the school schedule. I had another headache today. I got used to sleeping until ten during vacation, and now I have to be up at seven.
When Scott called a little while ago, he said he might get stuck working late tonight. He doesn't know yet. For at least this week, he'll be the first one they look to for overtime because he hasn't done any overtime in a couple of weeks. Policy is that whoever's coming off vacation is the first to get stuck with overtime.
