Feb. 28th, 2014 09:01 amLast night's indoor soccer practice was moved. The school where practice usually occurs needed their gym for something, so the coach got space at his church. Unfortunately, when he notified parents, he put the wrong address in the message. He said 1835 when it was actually 1385. Scott and Cordelia were very confused as they searched for the church (the coach didn't say anything beyond 'my church,' so they couldn't even look for a particular church). They did find it. I'm not sure how.
Our sister-in-law, the vascular surgeon who lives in Seattle, has offered to see what she can find out about whatever surgeon I'm assigned to see. She says her chair is a general surgeon who does this type of surgery regularly and who might well know anybody here who does the surgery or at least be able to find out about them. She says that this is a relatively routine surgery, done by both thoracic and general surgeons.
I talked to my step-father last night (my mother is on her way to Florida to visit my grandfather and talk to his new medical team). I wanted to call while Cordelia was out so that I could talk about the possible surgery. My step-father was generally supportive. He talked to me for longer than I expected. Usually he's quick to get off the phone because he can't hear dreadfully well.
Next week, in the mornings before school, I'll have two extra kids for part of the time. Cordelia's friend's mother has to travel and be away for a week, and the friend who usually takes the kids before school will also be out of town. That means their father will be dropping them off here some time between 7:30 and 8:00. I wish the timing were more definite-- Some mornings, I'm going to want to shower, and I don't always finish before 7:30. I'd like to be done and dressed by the time they arrive. I can do it if they arrive at 7:40 or later. Oh, well. I'll just be sure to take my bathrobe into the bathroom those morning.
I'm a little frustrated-- The school district has no mechanism for submitting questions about the new program at Cordelia's school. There are points I'd definitely like to see addressed. I want to know if there will be an option for 6th graders (and 7th and 8th graders when it comes to that) to continue with instrumental music. I want to know if 6th graders will get any foreign language instruction. Both of those are things that the middle school does. I'm curious, too, as to how much gym time the 6th graders will get. 5th graders get half an hour a week, but 6th graders at the middle school get three sessions a week (I think the sessions are about 45 minutes each).
