Mar. 14th, 2014 07:26 pmCordelia is distracted by the shiny in terms of what she wants for school next year. A counselor from the middle school came to her class today, and now she really wants to go to the middle school. It's a little frustrating because she bounces back and forth. It's also frustrating that the middle school wants a firm commitment to attend or not attend in the next week. We'll tell them she's going to attend and then decide for sure later. Of course, that may mess up the district's computer tracking. We've told them that she's staying at her current school, and now we'll be telling them that she isn't.
I really want her to stay where she is. That's for purely selfish reasons. I don't want to have to get up earlier. I don't want to have to take the bus in order to retrieve her for appointments. I'd like the option to continue with the social worker into the fall if it's useful. I'd like to be able to keep volunteering at Cordelia's school. I'd like not to have to worry about her missing the bus in the morning (I have no good way to get her to school if she misses the bus. I can't drive) or about her having to wait in the cold and dark for the bus every morning.
We're still weighing factors, and we want to put off making a definite decision until some time in April, after they introduce the new principal. That will make a difference.

I'd ask them how hard it would be to switch in each direction if you need to, later, and I'd be up-front that you're asking that because they're demanding a decision made with only partial information, and relatively little time to consider the information they have given you....

(They claim that the kids have two electives, but they really only have one-- which type of music they're going to take. The other 'elective' is assigned and rotates through several options until all the kids have had all of them.)
