Apr. 13th, 2014 10:29 amYesterday, I finally used the Massage Envy gift card Scott gave me for Christmas. I got an hour and a half massage and, as a freebie, a sugar foot scrub. The massage was very nice, but it told me that, even if I'm not having much pain these days, I still have the fibromyalgia tender points. I was also a bit distracted while the masseuse was working on my back-- Lying face down means my breasts hurt just a bit. The sugar foot scrub wasn't much of anything. It took about two minutes and really didn't, in my opinion, do much.
There is a kind of hidden cost to the massage, something they don't mention up front-- One's expected to tip. I don't mind the expectation so much. It's not unreasonable. It's just that adding an extra $20 plus to the bill makes the whole thing decidedly more expensive. I'd wondered why Massage Envy was so much cheaper than the other massage place we tried. I think the difference is the expectation of a tip. The price with tip is pretty much equal to the other place's tipless price.
While I got my massage, Scott and Cordelia went in search of replacement rubber bands for her Rainbow Loom. She bought five bags for a dollar each, and she bought replacement earbuds to use with her iPad mini. She used her own money. Scott says she didn't even try to get him to pay for things.
After that, they did the grocery shopping. They must have been quite efficient. Because they got all of this done, including taking the groceries home and putting them away, in time to be in the waiting room when I got done.
Bubble Island reopened yesterday, and we were going to go, but when we drove by, the line was out the door. We decided that it wasn't worth the wait, not when parking is so difficult. Scott would have been orbiting the block for twenty minutes. We'll go back today, even if the line is long.
I'm taking a lot of library books back today, things I barely even started and really haven't decided whether or not I want to finish. It's just that I've kept most of them for eight weeks already. I don't think I'm going to get to them if I haven't by now. I suppose I could renew then. There aren't any holds on them. I just feel like eight weeks ought to be enough. I don't know if I'll put these on my list to try again or not.

Date: 2014-04-15 08:12 am (UTC)Massage Envy is less expensive because they hire straight out of school and pay a low, flat fee per massage, regardless of length or type. This means the business owner is making enough extra profit on the upsell services.

Date: 2014-04-15 09:47 pm (UTC)They tried to get me to join up and pay a monthly fee for one massage a month. I just can't see paying that much money every month for any luxury.
