the_rckScott and Cordelia went to the library without me yesterday. I couldn't leave the pie in the oven unattended, and the library was going to close soon. They picked up my holds and got us all bubble tea (well, I think Scott got a smoothie but close enough).
For dinner, we went to the Blue Nile and had the vegetarian feast. We had seconds of the cabbage, the potatoes and the greens (I forget if they're kale or collard greens or something else altogether). We managed to leave full but not uncomfortably so which is unusual for an all-you-can-eat experience.
We came home, and I called my mother. After that we had pie. Then I called my grandmother while Cordelia showered (It was past ten when she got to bed. I'm not best pleased by that). Both my mother and my grandmother seem to be doing well.
Grandma is eighty-nine and still living on her own. My cousin and his wife check up on her regularly. My uncle and his wife have been trying to talk her into moving in with them. (My cousin would, but I don't think he's got room.) She says that she can definitely feel her age, but she values her independence, and all of her friends and her church are in East Tawas. Moving to Oscoda would lose all of that, and she can still walk around East Tawas when the weather is good.
Mom didn't tell me much about herself. She said that work continues. They're still trying to buy a house in Michigan, but the seller of the house they want has failed to get back to them. Mom thinks he's probably very ill. They'd hoped to be able to move in in June, but there's no way that's going to happen. Mom did tell me that my brother is going to graduate with his masters in social work in June. He's already working full time, doing a job he likes (he did his unpaid internship with this agency, and they liked him enough to hire him), so he's all set. The only change that getting his degree will make is that he'll earn a bit more money.
The sunburn around my neck is making wearing shirts or dresses painful. I'm not sure how I managed it yesterday. The temptation today, since I'm not planning to go out and don't expect anyone to stop by, is to go shirtless all day. It's not a long term solution, but then, it's not a long term problem.
