May. 19th, 2014 08:31 amCordelia's party yesterday went well. The girls played games in the dining room for an hour then announced that they were ready for cake. As it turned out, three of the eleven candles we scrounged up for Cordelia were trick candles, the kind that are impossible to blow out. That was frustrating for Cordelia (she did laugh over it, though).
Cordelia got two gift cards for Orange Leaf (the frozen yogurt place) and one for Target that will probably go toward a new bike. She got a Ever After High doll, a craft kit (Cordelia says it's called Photo Bangle), and a game. She also got a $10 bill from her cousin. I was a little surprised that she got anything from her cousin since they gave her a present on Saturday.
Scott's sister stayed during the party, and we three adults talked while the kids played. The kids pretty much didn't want us around.
Scott had bought a plastic tablecloth for the party. The girls completely destroyed it. Apparently ripping holes in it was fun. When Scott gathered it up to throw it out, a couple of girls clung to it, ripping off pieces.
After the party, we took a quick trip to the library. I went to the desk to turn in a CD-- The CD didn't match the case it was in. I'd put a hold on a bluegrass album, and I got the right case. Unfortunately, it contained a rap album instead.
We stopped and got bubble tea, but Cordelia and I had to wait to drink ours because there was a Girl Scout meeting at four (the party ended at three). The meeting was intended to have the girls give input in planning the bridging ceremony we'll be doing with the the Brownie and Daisy troops. For about half of the meeting, Cordelia was the only bridging girl present, but another showed up before the end. Neither girl had anything they wanted to suggest. I think that they, like me, had only a vague idea of what might be involved.
The Brownies are doing a park clean up at Plymouth Park on the 31st. After they finish that, they'll have a Brownie only ceremony. Then, we'll have the bridging ceremony. Then there will be a potluck (I decided that we wouldn't stay for that. The culinary landmines are too challenging). The Brownie leaders are spearheading the whole thing. They're going to try to get a small wooden bridge from the Council. If they can't, we'll use an imaginary bridge. There will be some songs. We're going to try to get some Cadettes to participate to receive Cordelia and the other two girls who are bridging from Juniors.
Cordelia was entitled to dinner out for her birthday. She could have picked anything, but she found the possibilities overwhelming. She finally settled on Olga's and asked that we get carry out rather than eating in the restaurant. We did that.
Tonight is Cordelia's class' instrumental concert. I expect it to be painful as the kids have only had since about November to learn to play. Cordelia can mostly hit the right notes now, but she can't keep time, so playing together with other people will be challenging. The kids also missed their last pre-concert rehearsal due to the trip to the middle school. I think the performance they do today for the whole school will be the first time they've all played together.
At least the whole thing should be short. I don't expect it to last more than half an hour to forty-five minutes.

Date: 2014-05-19 01:36 pm (UTC)I wish your group had been to the Ann Arbor South bridging ceremony. They do a lovely job of it and, over the years, have grown have loads of nice traditions.
