I'm tempted to take my e-reader with me to fifth grade camp, but I have no way to charge it without my laptop. We bought an adapter so that I could plug in to an outlet, but it doesn't work. If I can't take my e-reader, I'll have to carry actual books with me. I want to be careful about what I pack because I'm hoping to be able to carry everything at once. I'll have a bag, a backpack, a sleeping bag and at least one pillow. I ought to bring two pillows so that I can lie on top of one and maybe get some sleep without quite so much pain. I'm just afraid that the extra pillow will be more than I can carry. Maybe, if I'm not taking so many books, I can put a pillow in my backpack.

I'll have all day Thursday to read. Breakfast ends at 8:45 a.m., and the kids don't come back to the cabin until 8:45 p.m. Lights out is at 10 p.m. I'm going to have a lot of time to kill. I'll definitely take a notebook and try to write, but I can't do that for more than a few minutes at a time before my hand cramps up.

Cordelia is freaking out in advance. She's afraid I won't show up, either deliberately or through some mischance. She was crying about it just a few minutes ago. I have every intention of being there even if I have to draft Scott to drive me over there (it's a two hour drive, and I'd definitely rather not do that to him in the middle of a work week). I'm definitely thinking that we stopped seeing the social worker too soon. Cordelia's catastrophizing, and nothing reassures her.

Much sympathy.

Does the e-reader charge through a USB cable? If so, there are wall-outlet-to-USB adapters and those might be a better bet?

How long does your ereader battery last? My kindle will last for a couple weeks even with heavy usage. I'm baffled by the idea that a wall charger isn't working. Perhaps you've got the wrong cord?

Is it a standard mini usb charge cable? Those are cheap and you might have one around. Also, are you sure that outlet works? You might look into buying a new battery for your device. You might be able to get a lot longer out of it, and you could save the old one as a backup.

Open up your device so you can see the battery. It has a serial number on it. Type that into amazon. The price will vary depending on the kind of battery. I replaced my cell phone battery for under $30.

If you think it would help Cordelia, please tell her that I'm happy to be a backup driver to make sure you get to camp. (Unless you're going there on the 28th -- I'm ferrying my own kid around all day that day.)
