May. 24th, 2014 04:48 pmIt's time to sign up to work at Cordelia's school's ice cream social. They need parents to run games and to sell food, and I always volunteer for at least two shifts out of four. I don't volunteer for set up because I need dinner (they sell pizza which I can't eat). I don't volunteer for clean up because I know I'll be too exhausted after two hours on my feet to do anything.
Right now, it's wide open. I could sign up for just about anything. I don't think I want to do the petting zoo or the pony rides because I'm allergic to pretty much all animals I've spent time with. I could do the cake walk. Somebody wins that every time, and the prizes are real. I could do the lollipop tree where the kids get to keep the lollipop regardless of whether or not they get any other prize. As to things I've run before, somebody else has signed up for all four shifts of dig for gold, and I don't think they do bingo at the ice cream social because all the games are outside. I've done the craft table before, but I didn't see that as an option on the sign up spreadsheet.
We usually contribute something to the cake walk, but they seem to have some new rules about how everything should be packaged that will make that more difficult. They want everything divided up into individually wrapped servings. We usually buy a package of six cupcakes, assuming we can find some that are safe (the school is peanut and tree nut free. Most elementary schools in Ann Arbor are) and donate that. We wouldn't be able to do that under the new rules. Plus, they want each donation to be 8-10 servings. Six cupcakes no longer qualifies.
I suppose I could make up the chocolate muffin mix that I've had in the cupboard for a year. If I frost them, they're perfectly acceptable cupcakes. I don't even have to frost them-- Muffins are an acceptable donation to the cake walk. The package makes twelve.
