Today, the third, fourth and fifth graders are going to the pool. The weather looks good for it. It's a tad chilly right now, but the sun's out, and it will warm up fast. They'll be leaving the school about 10:30 and walking about a mile to the pool. They'll have lunch before they go in. The school has reserved the pool from 12-1. After that, other people will be allowed in, too.

Cordelia has already put on sun screen. Last year, we left it for her to put on on arriving at the pool, and she forgot. She burned painfully. Neither of us want that to happen again. She says she'll put on more when she gets to the pool, but she should be mostly covered even if she doesn't. There was a little difficulty over getting her back and shoulders because she didn't want to take off her shirt. I think I got everything the suit won't cover, at least in back. I'm not sure she got enough of her chest and front of the shoulders.

After school, the Girl Scouts have a field trip. They're leaving from school. Cordelia has asked me to come and be with her until she gets in the car to go. That will let me take her swim bag and backpack home, so I'm not arguing with her.

There was an outing I expected her to go on with that Cadette troop we're looking into. (Cordelia is by no means convinced she wants to join because she only knows one girl.) They're going to Howell to do a high ropes course. Cordelia, having seen a high ropes course at fifth grade camp, decided she had no interest in going. I might have pushed, but she also has a softball game at exactly the same time as the trip. We still have to pay for the trip because the troop already paid for Cordelia to go.

There is another alternative for Girl Scouts for next year, something that never occurred to me as possible. One of the other current fifth graders plans to stay with the Junior troop as a Cadette and just do activities with them. Cordelia could do that, too, and she'd know all the girls. (It's also possible that, given the new families coming in, someone will be willing to start a Cadette troop. I don't know.) The upside is that we could walk to the meetings. The downsides are that the troop wouldn't really be geared for Cadettes and that I would then still be expected to be heavily involved with the troop.
