Last night was the first softball game of the season that we were able to attend. Cordelia's team is called the Angels, and last night they played the Tigers. The Angels have white t-shirts (horrid to keep clean but much nicer for being out in the sun) while the Tigers have navy blue. It was about 79 degrees, and there was a nice breeze, so watching the game wasn't utterly miserable. The biting insects also stayed away.

This year, the girls pitch for the first time. Up until now, it's always been coach pitch with the coaches pitching to their own teams and trying to let the girls hit. Only one of the pitchers, one of the Tigers, was actually good at it, and even she was fairly erratic. There were a lot of walks. There's also a rule that, if the bases are loaded, the coach for the batting team pitches. That's because walks aren't allowed when the bases are loaded. This came into play most innings. Cordelia struck out once, walked twice and (I think) hit once on a coach pitch. They still have the rule limiting a given team to seven runs in an inning which is, I think, a good thing.

It started raining during the last inning. It wasn't heavy until after the game finished, but we definitely knew it was raining. There wasn't any lightning, so the game went on.

After the game, we stopped at Whole Foods which was on the way home and got cookies. The rain was really starting to come down by the time we got back to the car.

Cordelia didn't get to bed until after ten. This is hard on me and Scott as it gives us no time to ourselves and no time to watch whatever DVD we've got from Netflix or program we've recorded on the DVR. It also means that we can't get at the bathroom when it's time for us to get ready for bed ourselves. I've suggested that we take control of the TV at nine and ignore the question of whether or not a particular program is appropriate for Cordelia. She should be getting ready for bed then anyway. I don't mind if she stays up for a bit, once she's ready for bed, but I'd rather she did it in her own room.

I've been doing some writing. I now have a first chapter of the sequel to "Snare." I don't expect to go farther with that one for a while. It will be quite long and needs to parallel Kapital fairly carefully. I've also edited the zombie apocalypse story enough that I think I could post the first chapter. I needed to make the monsters a little less overwhelming, and I needed to remind myself of the details. I've dropped hints throughout that one of the characters isn't exactly human any longer, but I can't remember what I intended him to be.

I've been writing a scene from a story I swore I wasn't going to touch again. It's called "Occlusion" and can only be found on my website because it's permanently incomplete, consisting of a couple of fragments that just barely go together (the thing I'm writing comes between the two fragments). I abandoned it because it was likely to be extremely long and because I didn't like any of the characters. They were all the nastiest possible versions of themselves. I have no idea why this story has come calling again or why I'm indulging it. Well, I'm indulging it because I want to write something and this is coming easily.
