It's interesting to see which of my stories get responses on fanfiction.net. "Disembarking," a Chronicles of Narnia story about Eustace in the immediate aftermath of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, has gotten several comments which, given how it was received on AO3, I didn't expect. "Rustication," a Ranma 1/2 story featuring a romance between Ukyou and Mousse, has gotten three comments. Almost no one has even looked at it on AO3. The most popular story doesn't surprise me-- That would be "To the Least of These," the Narnia story about Aslan and the guinea pig.

I am trying to figure out the best way to respond to comments that boil down to, "I like this. I demand you write more of it." I don't expect to write more of any of the stories I've posted. I can see room for more for several of them, but I'm not interested in writing it because doing that would result in more epically long stories. I don't have room in my life for more of those, so I mean it when I mark something 'complete.'

I do wish I could find a FAQ or something about posting to fanfiction.net. I had to find out the chapter length limits by trial and error. (Well, I still don't know the exact limit. I know that 12000 words is too long, but I don't know the upper limit beyond that.) Even then, I just knew that I couldn't save the story as it was. I didn't get an error message saying that the dratted thing was too long. It just refused to save with no explanation. I guessed it was length, and, as I was able to save when I split the story in half, that seems to have been correct.

I've been posting on ffnet for a while; in fact that was the first place I knew of, to post things, so that's where I started. I've been mostly just blundering about and finding out what works along the way. There is a 'help' button at the bottom of the page which comes up when you click on your own logged-in name.

Like you, I have found differences in responses on AO3 and on ffnet, but then I've usually put the story on ffnet a day or so before I've put it on AO3. Can I ask what prompted you to try out ffnet?

(Also, what is IJ?)

I did some googling and found this page of instructions for how to post to fanfiction.net -- but probably you've already found this much info and more. But it does seem like a forum where you could ask if there's a FAQ or anything:
https://www.fanfiction.net/topic/2872/2542480/How-to-Upload-Documents-Post-Edit-Stories

(I'm not sure that was at all useful.)

"Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I feel like I've taken this story as far as I can, and my writing energy is going towards [other project] and [yet another project]."
