Some of these, I had no real comments on. Take those as ranging from 'meh' to 'not bad but not memorable.'

CDs I've listened to in the last few weeks:

ABBA. Gold - I know most of these songs. They're familiar enough to be fun even if they're not something I'd seek out as new to me music now. My sister was big into ABBA when we were kids.

Amazing Grace: a Country Salute to Gospel - I enjoyed the title song because I always like "Amazing Grace," but nothing else really appealed to me.

Berline, Byron. Thanks Bill Monroe -

Blaylock, Audie and Redline. I'm Going Back to Old Kentucky - I enjoyed this one.

Carpenter, Mary Chapin. The Age of Miracles - I had to get this one from the library twice because, the first time, the wrong CD was in the case. I wish, after all that trouble, that I had liked it better. I didn't dislike it. I didn't mind listening to it. It's just that nothing on the album caught me.

Carpenter, Mary Chapin. The Essential Mary Chapin Carpenter -

Celtic Compass - This one gets a resounding 'meh.' I didn't hate it; I didn't love it. There were a couple of songs I enjoyed, but on the whole, it was just kind of there in the background as I did other things.

Celtic Twilight v.1 - This left me feeling like I was sitting in a waiting room and the music was meant to mellow me out but instead was wearing on me. Sometimes, I'm in the mood to allow that sort of thing, but more often, I'm simply not.

Chapman, Tracy. Let It Rain - I like Chapman's voice, but her music leaves me feeling down, and I mostly can't deal with that.

Chenille Sisters. True to Life - I think I want to like the Chenille Sisters more than I actually do. I was introduced to them through a children's album that I bought at the Friends of the Library book sale when Cordelia was small. There were a couple of songs on that album that I quite liked. Since I've been getting their CDs from the library, I've found myself kind of vaguely disappointed. There's nothing awful, just nothing that really catches me. I have the impression, too, that there are a lot of overlapping songs between their albums.

Chieftans. The Chieftans in China - I generally enjoyed this. I don't feel any need to run out and buy it, but it was pleasant to listen to.

Chieftans. Further Down the Old Plank Road - Eh. Whatever. I keep hoping I'll find another Chieftans album that I love, but so far, I've had no luck.

Chieftans. An Irish Evening -

Chieftans. The Very Best of the Claddagh Years -

A Child's Celebration of Broadway - I didn't know most of these songs. I like songs from musicals in general, so I was inclined favorably toward this CD, but I think that it's a CD that benefits from knowing the source musicals. The CD was damaged and crashed iTunes midway through.

A Child's Celebration of Dance Music - Not all of these struck me as danceable. The songs skewed to the 60s with a few from the early 70s.

Classic Mountain Songs - This is a Smithsonian Folkways album. I didn't care much for most of it. I think there was only one song that I really enjoyed listening to.

Definitive Bluegrass Collection - I enjoyed this one.

DeMent, Iris. The Way I Should - I liked the duets DeMent did with John Prine on In Spite of Ourselves, so when this turned up, I thought I'd try it. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't particularly memorable either.

Fifty Years of Bluegrass Hits 4 - The library doesn't appear to have any other CDs in this set which is a pity as I rather liked this one.

Flatt, Lester and Earl Scruggs. Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs - Bluegrass, definitely bluegrass. I didn't love this one. It was fine, nothing wrong with it, but I didn't love it.

Flatt, Lester, Earl Scruggs, and the Foggy Mountain Boys. Foggy Mountain Banjo - This was so short that it feels like I blinked and it was over (it was less than half an hour long). I liked it but not enough to justify buying it at the prices it commands (nearly $200 for a new CD).

The Grascals. The Grascals -

Griffith, Nanci. Winter Marquee - I listened to this one twice, trying to see if I could form a strong opinion about it. I didn't manage to.

Harris, Emmylou. Blue Kentucky Girl -

Harris, Emmylou. Duets - It's hard to get a read on whether or not I like an artist when I'm listening to collaborations with lots of different people. I liked some of these and didn't like others.

Harris, Emmylou. Songbird - This was four CDs and a DVD. I skipped the DVD because I was burned out. I like Harris' voice, but four CDs was a bit much all at once. None of the songs made a strong impression.

Harris, Emmylou. Wrecking Ball - Every time I looked at this CD's title, I kept thinking of Miley Cyrus. This wasn't a bad CD. It just wasn't really my sort of thing.

Krauss, Alison. Too Late to Cry -

Krauss, Alison and Union Station. Live - I always want to listen to Krauss's albums (with or without Union Station) more than once to try to form a solid opinion, something beyond 'okay but not memorable.' I always want to, but I never have the time, especially now that it's summer and I have to work my listening around Cordelia's schedule.

Krauss, Alison and Union Station. Paper Airplane -

Krauss, Alison and Union Station. So Long So Wrong -

Lynn Morris Band. The Bramble and the Rose - This wasn't bad. It was a style of music (bluegrass) that I like even if none of the songs really caught me.

Ma, Yo-Yo, Edgar Meyer and Mark O'Connor. Appalachian Journey - This was rather too classical in sensibility for me to appreciate it properly.

McKennitt, Loreena. Nights from the Alhambra - I gave the DVD in this set a pass as I didn't enjoy the music enough to want to bother.

McKennitt, Loreena. The Wind That Shakes the Barley - I think, based on this and the other McKennitt album I tried, that McKennitt's music isn't really for me. Several people recommended her to me many years ago when she only had an album or two out, and I didn't love her then. McKennitt has a nice voice, but I have trouble following her lyrics.

Mountain Frolic - I bailed on this one in the middle of the first CD (out of four). The sound quality wasn't great. Also, these are recordings from the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the songs used the n word, and I didn't feel like hearing that.

Mountain Heart. Road That Never Ends -

Old-Time Mountain Ballads - Not for me. The sound quality also wasn't great, lots of static.

Osborne Brothers. Detroit to Wheeling - I quite liked this, but I kind of got annoyed with myself over it because I kind of want something different. I'm afraid that all of this bluegrass will start to sound alike.

Parton, Dolly. Greatest Hits - I recognized more of these than I expected to. This must have come out, originally, in the 1980s. I wouldn't know the songs otherwise.

Parton, Dolly. Slow Dancing with the Moon - I quite liked this.

Parton, Dolly. Those Were the Days - This turned up in my library searching because Alison Krauss participates in one song, and I thought, why not? I remember liking some Dolly Parton back in the distant mists of my adolescence. Overall, I enjoyed this CD. I just wanted something more from it. I'm not even sure what.

Parton, Dolly, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Trio - I enjoyed this one.

Perlman, Ken. Clawhammer Banjo & Fingerstyle Guitar Solos - Enjoyable but not particularly memorable.

Plant, Robert and Alison Krauss. Raising Sand - Not my cup of tea.

Ronstadt, Linda. Lush Life - The library shelves this as 'pop,' but I wouldn't call it that. I can't place the exact era, but this sounds to be well before my time. Maybe 1940s style? I don't know. At any rate, it wasn't for me.

Ronstadt, Linda. The Very Best of Linda Ronstadt - This one was fun because I knew most of the songs and could sing along. The downside of that is that I already own most of the songs.

Ronstadt, Linda and Emmylou Harris. Western Wall -

The Roys. Lonesome Whistle - I forget how this one came up in my library catalog searches. It must have featured a duet of some sort with someone I was looking for. I've been putting things like that on my list to try. Anyway, this one was okay but not great. I don't think I want to listen to it again.

Scruggs, Earl. Classic Bluegrass Live 1959-1966 - There was nothing that really stood out about this one. It was pleasant to listen to, a type of music that I enjoy, but my mind wandered, and I really didn't pay much attention.

Seeger, Mike. Southern Banjo Sounds - I didn't enjoy the vocals on this one. The banjo was mostly very spare. I wished for more body to it. Not a favorite.

Seeger, Pete. Which Side Are You On? - I didn't care much for this one. The sound quality was poor enough that I could barely hear anything, even with the volume turned all the way up. These were pretty much all union songs

Seldom Scene. Scene It All - I almost stopped this after the first song because I disliked it so much, but I played the rest of it and didn't hate it. I didn't love it, though. Whatever.

Seldom Scene. Scenechronized - I'm glad I decided to try another Seldom Scene album because I quite liked this one.

31 Bluegrass Favorites - I quite enjoyed this. It's a Rural Rhythms CD, and I've had good luck with those. It's a pity the library doesn't have more of them. I found their website, though, and I think I'll explore it a bit.

Tone Poets - I was eager enough for the first CD of this to be over that I didn't bother listening to the second CD. It's all guitar and mandolin.

World's Greatest Bluegrass Bands - What it says on the tin. Neither very good nor very bad. Some of the sound was unexpected.
