the_rckCordelia has started checking books out from the library again. She's going through Barshaw's Ellie McDoodle series, and she's started a manga series called ChocoMimi. Because she's going into sixth grade, she's doing a different summer reading challenge this year. She only has to read five books instead of ten. I don't know what the prize for completing it is. For the younger kids, it's a book chosen from a cart full of books.
I think the difference in reading challenge comes from an assumption that older kids read more difficult books. That's not really true of Cordelia. She's put a hold on Divergent, but she won't get it for weeks (she's something like 50th on the waiting list). I suspect, too, that she won't like it. She hasn't enjoyed any of the dystopias she's tried (Though the only one I specifically remember her trying is The Hunger Games).
I believe there's a reading challenge for adults, too, but I've never done it. It's always seemed like too much trouble to sign up and all. I'm pretty sure that's a five book challenge, too, so I likely could do it if I could find five books I actually wanted to finish. I don't really tend to finish books these days.
Yesterday was mostly a laid back day. Scott kept saying he was going to do some yard work, but he kept putting it off and never actually made it outside. We did go to the library, fairly early in the day. After that, we got bubble tea and food from Wendy's for lunch.
Cordelia had softball practice. Scott tells me that Cordelia was part of a triple play. Cordelia was less excited about it than Scott was. I'm not sure she realized what a big deal it is. We have two games this week. The one today is at a field with no shade. The one Wednesday is at a park we've not played at before. I know the park in question has plenty of shade for the playground, but I think it doesn't have trees near the baseball diamond.
