Jul. 8th, 2014 03:47 pmIt poured yesterday around 3:00. The skies really opened up and dumped rain on us. While it rained, Rec & Ed cancelled all games. By 4:00, the sky was clear and things were starting to dry out. I have no idea how bad the fields were, of course, but it really seemed like we could have had our game after all.
In a way, it was fortunate that we didn't have a game. Scott had to go in at 3 a.m. today, and a game would have kept him up an hour past when he needed to be in bed.
I spent my morning link finding for
metanews. I found a lot of fandom specific meta this week, not so much the general meta. I think it will take me a few weeks to feel really comfortable doing this job. I think next week it will be my turn to make the weekly DW post. I'm nervous about that. Hopefully, someone will walk me through the process.
I did a little present shaking for Not Prime Time, and I pretty much know what fandom I'm getting because only one of those I requested has any fic. There are still some pinch hits that haven't come in, so the moderator has warned us that the archive may not open on time.
Our power blipped twice about half an hour ago. I hope it doesn't truly go out. The weather is currently clear, and it's not particularly hot (humid, yes, but not hot), so it shouldn't be high demand causing problems.

Date: 2014-07-08 09:26 pm (UTC)Metanews is a community on DreamWidth that has a weekly post of links to articles about fandom that analyze something about a specific fandom (for example, I found links today about the X-Men as a metaphor for queerness and about how horrifying it is that Rowling has stated that Voldemort was incapable of love because he was a child of rape), about multiple fandoms (last week, I found a link to an article comparing the handling of race in Sherlock to the handling of race in Elementary), or about fandom in general (last week, there was an article about how becoming a parent changed the author's experience of television, movies, etc.). I volunteered to help out, and they've got me monitoring an RSS feed of blogs that have had meta in the past. Once a week, I go through and sort out the relevant links.
