Jul. 15th, 2014 09:04 amLast night, we had a softball game. It rained through the first couple of innings then cleared up, but it stayed kind of cold. If I'd realized how chilly it would be, I'd have brought a jacket and probably changed from shorts to long pants. Scott set up one of our sun umbrellas to keep the rain off. They don't work for more than about an hour before they start to leak, but an hour helps.
The girls' pitching is improving. There were some strike outs last night (for both teams). Cordelia hit several times, making it home twice and getting tagged out at first once (I don't remember other hits, but they may well have happened). She struck out once, with her coach pitching. Cordelia's team only had nine girls, so the other team loaned them a girl when they were in the field. She played in the outfield and didn't really do much. I wonder how she felt about not batting at all.
Our next softball game is a make up game on Friday. Then we play the following Wednesday and Saturday (also a make up game). The final game of the season will be Monday the 28th. Cordelia says she doesn't want to play next year, but I won't believe that until sign up time comes and she says the same thing. She's said before that she wanted not to play next season, and she always changes her mind (except about basketball).
I think Cordelia's team won last night's game. They don't announce the final score or anything like that, but they do have somebody keeping score (and the whole thing is very complicated to do because the score keeper has to track each batter from base to base and note other stuff about what's going on-- types of hits/walks, types of outs, that sort of thing). Cordelia's team winning was my general impression based on the number of innings where her team got runs and the other team didn't.
Cordelia and I both have dental appointments today. If I'd thought about it, I'd have rescheduled. It's Art Fair this week, and they're already setting up. I think the bus detours won't affect us, but the whole thing makes travel really stressful. I want to get us lunch out, but Cordelia's been shooting down my suggestions, so we may just come home.
