One of the parents on the sixth grade STEAM mailing list suggested a gathering Sunday for the kids to play soccer. We went. The gathering lasted two hours. There were about five families there, including us, and one of the families is on the waitlist and so may not end up at the school at all. All of the other kids were boys. Cordelia played with them anyway, but I think she was a little disappointed.

I feel a little bad because we skipped a family gathering to attend the soccer thing-- Our brother-in-law's birthday is around now, and his mother invited all of us to a lunch gathering to celebrate. Of course, the planned menu was all stuff I can't eat, so going wouldn't have been much fun.

I went with Scott and Cordelia to softball practice because we didn't have anything ready for dinner. We bought food at Whole Foods, pizza for Cordelia, salad for Scott and fish and cabbage for me. I probably could have scrounged something to eat at home, but I was just as happy not to. Practice ran an extra half an hour. I spent most of the time reading fic on my e-reader. I didn't finish anything because I couldn't settle on what I wanted to read. I had hoped to stay home and try to write, and maybe I should have done that. I just didn't want to have to scrounge a meal. It probably would have been baked beans and green beans and a bagel, not an awful meal but nothing particularly exciting.

There were about eight girls (out of roughly fourteen) there, and they mostly practiced fielding. One of the other dads there tried to get Cordelia to change how she throws. Right now, she throws like she's doing a shot put, pushing out from the shoulder. He was trying to get her to pivot at the shoulder. She'll get more distance if she can master that, and she refuses to hear it from me and Scott.

We stopped at Whole Foods again on the way home because custom dictates getting cookies before heading home. We didn't get them when we got dinner because we were low on time (I had to change over some laundry before we left home, and I needed to wait until it dried properly, so we were running late).
