Yesterday, Scott's sister had a medical appointment in Ann Arbor. She brought her daughter and picked up me and Cordelia. The three of us went to Barnes & Noble while Scott's sister went to her appointment. I bought a book for Scott and a DVD for Cordelia, and Cordelia bought a book (Rick Riordan's Greek mythology book) with money her great-grandmother gave her. I got all three of us drinks in the in-store Starbucks. The girls were a little disappointed that the advertised smoothie flavors weren't available due to a lack of bananas, but they found something they wanted anyway.

Scott's sister finished up her appointment around noon, and all four of us went to Panera for lunch. Cordelia and her cousin had tortellini with chicken. Scott's sister had a salad. I had an asiago steak sandwich.

Nobody had strong feelings about what to do next. We were all four prepared to go swimming, but the girls were so tepid about doing it that we adults didn't feel strongly motivated.

I suggested going to DSW to see if I could find a pair of sandals. I haven't had sandals for years, and I've kind of missed them this summer. We were late in the year for finding sandals, but there were still quite a few pairs on the sale shelves in the very back. I was torn between two pairs of sandals, one that looked nice and had good support but was a little tight and one that fit better but had less support and didn't look as nice. The second was about $20 cheaper than the first, so that and the better fit carried the day. I also bought Cordelia a pair of slippers.

From there, we went to Marshall's. The selection of clothes for girls was pretty poor. Cordelia tried on two shirts, one of which we bought and the other of which she rejected for not being sufficiently opaque. Scott's sister suggested that women's extra small shirts might be worth trying, and Cordelia tried on some of those, but none of them fit quite right, and they tended to be quite low cut.

After that, we came back here, and everybody but me played Mario Kart 8.

Our niece left her purse here. We're hoping to be able to attend a family gathering on Saturday at which we can give it back to her, but that depends entirely on Scott's job not scheduling him to work on Saturday which, well, he's had so many Saturdays off that it's pretty likely he'll be working.

Cordelia had her first soccer practice last night. She wasn't pleased with it because it was pretty hot and because she hates sports practices in general. She asked me why we make her go to practices. I should have pointed out that Rec & Ed's rules say that only kids who go to practices are guaranteed playing time. Instead, I mentioned how much money we spend on a sports season (about $100). Cordelia was appalled and vowed that she'd never play sports again. I hope she gets over that. Sports are good for her, and she does enjoy the games a lot. We've already paid for volleyball, so the real test will be spring soccer. Red & Ed sports are a pretty good deal, actually.
