Scott's scheduled to work twelve hours tomorrow. His mother isn't pleased because she wanted to have the whole family, well all of us who are local, over for the afternoon. We're free on Sunday, but Scott's parents are going back to Cleveland on Monday, so they need Sunday to get ready.

I tried wearing my new sandals on Wednesday. I found that my feet were warmer and sweatier in them than in socks and my SAS lace ups. I'm not sure why. I don't think it was the weather on Wednesday. It was warm in here but no warmer than usual.

Last night, we made a shopping expedition to find a birthday present for a party Cordelia was going to and to buy the required school supplies for Tuesday. We went to the Target on Ann Arbor-Saline Road. I thought that the construction there was over, and there's construction near the Target on Carpenter. As it turns out, there's still some construction on Ann Arbor-Saline Road; it's just that they've reopened the road so that it's possible to get through. It wasn't before.

We ate at the Applebee's over there. I ended up eating too much, too late in the evening and having reflux trouble come bedtime. I actually had to get out of bed and sit up for a while. I got to sleep about two and a half hours late.

We thought about going to Meijer's instead of Target, but the construction made that impractical. All of those stores back there must be really hurting from a summer where the main access to them is completely blocked.

At Target, we found the back to school section immediately, but there was almost nothing there. We thought we'd have to go to an office supply store. Fortunately, there was another section of school supplies at the back of the store that had almost everything we needed. I do hope that 'composition books' translates to 'spiral notebooks,' though, because that's what we found.

We had to really search around to find a combination lock. We split up with me and Cordelia going one way and Scott going the other. He found the lock.

We got Cordelia's friend a game that we hope she doesn't already have. That took some considerable searching. This girl doesn't read and doesn't do crafts. She's into sports, but she has all the sports equipment she needs. Finding something for her was difficult.

I did pick up two eight pound weights. This means I've got two pound, three pound, five pound and eight pound weights. I use all of them. There are things Body Electric does that I can only do with the two pound weights, and things it does that I can do with heavier weights. I want the eight pound weights for two exercises-- bicep curls and some pectoral stuff that I don't feel with the five pound weights.

Scott commented that maybe, with me doing exercises with weights, we could get cast iron cookware again. I'm kind of dubious about that. The weight of that is different in terms of how it needs to be supported. Also, we don't really do much cooking that would use such things. It would be quite an investment for very little return. Cast iron cookware isn't cheap. We used to have some, back when we were first married. I put it on our wedding registry only to discover after we got it that I wasn't strong enough to use it. We got rid of it. I can't remember if we sold it or gave it away.

After Target, we stopped for gas then went to Whole Foods for a treat. The Whole Foods over there has gelato and sorbet. We'd never previously been there at a time when getting that sort of thing made sense. It's usually been the dead of winter. This time, we decided to try it. Cordelia got cookies and cream gelato. I got chai gelato. Scott got a berry blend sorbet.

We still have the supply lists from the art teacher and the vocal music teacher, but those lists are for general classroom supplies. They don't need every child to bring in everything on the list. Scott can get some of that stuff the next time he goes to Target on his way home from work. There's no hurry.

No, a composition book is smaller, and the pages are sewn in. If that's what a teacher is requiring I doubt they're going to accept spiral notebooks as a replacement.
