I got the estimate from the guy who came this morning. It's higher than the other two by about $1000, but it includes the cost of wood to replace a fair bit of what's rotten (he said he might well need more, depending on what he finds when he strips off the current shingles) and the cost of the attic venting he recommends. He has two kinds of shingles-- one with a thirty year warranty/guarantee and one with a fifty year.
As I said in my earlier post, this company offers financing. That may well be the deciding factor. This whole thing is more expensive than Scott was hoping it would be. I think the bad wood in the roof came as a surprise to him (I know it did to me). I hate to add another debt to our pile, but this work has to be done, and doing it soon is necessary. I don't know if the current roof will last another winter.
