the_rckScott has discovered, by e-mailing the coaches of other soccer teams, that the other teams at Cordelia's level are only practicing once a week. This makes me eye Cordelia's coaches askance. Are two practices a week really necessary?
I think we'd still have trouble convincing Cordelia to go once a week, but it might be easier. I take the doubled practice to mean that they're assuming the kids are serious about playing. Unfortunately, Cordelia isn't. She wants to do it as long as it's fun. She gave up on basketball due to having a coach who was hyper-competitive and who gave punishment drills. I think the problem here is similar.
Cordelia says she still wants to play soccer if there's a team at her school. I don't think she realizes that a school team is more likely to be highly competitive and less likely to have the relaxed attitude she's used to. Why couldn't we get assigned to a reasonable soccer team this season?
