metafandom about 12:30 and didn't finish until well after 3:00. That means I missed my exercise programs. If I'd been up in the morning, I could have gotten it all done well before Body Electric came on at 2:00.
In terms of my library books, I'm giving first priority to the books with holds on them. Turning those around quickly seems like the polite thing to do (not that I always manage it). I've got about a dozen graphic novels that are tempting because they should be quick reads, but none of them currently have holds on them. I'm currently working on Hot Zone by Jayne Castle, and next up is The Copernicus Complex by Caleb Scharf. I will certainly finish Hot Zone; it's an easy read, requiring no effort or thought. The Copernicus Complex will almost certainly be more difficult. Whether or not I finish it will depend heavily on the style of the writing.
We learned last night that it is possible to overcook crab legs on the grill. The meat in the skinny parts was dried out, tough, and nearly impossible to get out. The meatier parts were okay, however, so all was not lost. We also had broccoli (well, Cordelia and I did. There wasn't enough broccoli for Scott, so he had salad) and biscuits.
Weirdly, last night, for a while, I dreamed that I was asleep and dreaming. I was at enough of a remove from myself, in the dream, to observe both that my dream self was sleeping and to be aware of what my dream self was dreaming. It made perfect sense at the time, of course, but now it kind of breaks my brain.
I'm considering baking today. We have a cake mix and a brownie mix and chocolate chips. Any one of those could end up on the agenda. Cake will last the longest. Brownies are likely to be the most popular. But I've made both of those recently. Chocolate chip bars would be different. Of course, I'm not sure we have all the ingredients I would need for chocolate chip bars. Brown sugar, in particular, would be problematic.
At school, the sixth grade is building a lending library. We've contributed $20 and a small pillow and will loan them a drill for construction. They asked for someone to buy them a drill, a heat gun, and a power jigsaw, but I think they don't really need to own those things. The teacher said that loan of a drill would be more than sufficient. So far, they've painted and put up contact paper with a wood pattern on it. They plan to build shelves of various types. Cordelia says they have books already but that most of them aren't books anyone wants to read. She mentioned Tom Sawyer and Number the Stars (apparently, they have about four copies of that) specifically. I'd offer to donate some books, but I think most of what I'd be willing to part with wouldn't appeal to sixth graders either.
