Yesterday was my morning to volunteer in the school library. There are now three volunteers for the first hour on Thursdays. I may offer to switch to a different morning. I don't know. Maybe all the mornings have lots of volunteers. I'm used to being the only one. I foresee a lot of shelf reading in my future if this goes on. Not that there's anything wrong with shelf reading. It needs to be done.

There was only a little bit of shelving. I checked in two classes worth of books and shelved them. Then, I spent a couple of hours taping little scraps of paper to wooden sticks (the flat kind used to stir paint). They'll be really useful when they're done. The kids can use them to mark where they've pulled a book off the shelf (though I've never seen a kid do that. They're supposed to, but I don't think they generally do). They can use them kind of like library cards for checking books, and part of what I was taping one was user i.d.s for their server space and other online access things.

In the evening, Scott took Cordelia to soccer practice and stayed. He hadn't planned to; we'd arranged with another family for them to bring Cordelia home. She, however, expressed disappointment at Scott not staying for all of practice. Scott had thought that she wanted him to go away, that she was embarrassed by his presence. Apparently not.

It occurs to me that I should call my grandmother (father's mother) and tell her that my grandfather (mother's father) has died. They weren't close, but they knew each other through Mom and Papa being married. I think Grandma would want to know. I probably ought to tell Papa, too, but that feels less urgent, somehow. I'm not sure of the etiquette of this. Scott's family knows because I know they like to be kept up to date on such things and because I knew they'd be pleased to pray for everyone involved. I suspect they'd come to the funeral if it weren't going to be private (it's going to be at my uncle's house. I don't expect there'll be room for any but family).
