Oct. 10th, 2014 08:09 amYesterday was my day in the school library. I made a lot of shelf markers, those flat sticks for stirring paint with a student's name and barcode taped on, about two and a half classes worth. I had to tape on two things, the barcode and a log in i.d. I shelved some books. There was another parent also shelving, so it went quickly. I checked books out for the third graders, too.
While I was working on shelf markers in the back of the library, there was a guest speaker who talked first to all the first graders and then to all the third graders. They're studying weather, and she's a meteorologist. Mostly, she took questions and answered them. I left before she finished.
Cordelia has decided that, on the 25th, she'll play in the volleyball game instead of the soccer game. She's second guessing herself a bit on that, but I've e-mailed her coach to let her know. The volleyball game is at 11:20. The soccer game is at 11:15.
I've cleared Cordelia taking Tuesday off with her teachers. I just have to call the office and tell them. I'll do that in half an hour or so, once the initial rush of the day starting is over. I'll get Cordelia to work on her assignments tonight and tomorrow. The social studies and English assignments require internet access, so I don't want to wait until we're on the road.
The other night, for dinner, I made a sort of pot pie type of thing with leftover chicken and Jiffy mix. I started with a mix of oil and flour, heated that a bit, then added some chicken broth. I salted it and put in thyme and rosemary. I added green beans, peas, a chopped onion, and some diced, cooked chicken. The resulting mix was nice and thick and fit nicely into the pan I'd selected.
I didn't mix the Jiffy mix and almond milk nearly as well as I should have-- There were still a lot of lumps of the mix. I just couldn't seem to get rid of them.
I eyeballed the amounts for everything, and it came out pretty well. I am glad that I put a cookie sheet under it as it did bubble over. I pretty much guessed at how long it needed in the oven, going about fifteen minutes then checking to see if the biscuit dough had burned. I went another seven or eight minutes after that.
I probably won't post here Sunday or Monday and possibly not Tuesday either. I'm going to be so busy that it simply won't happen. I might have time on Tuesday, but that depends on fitting in the
metanews link finding, at least the start of it, before Tuesday. Link finding takes hours, and it needs to be done before Wednesday (I can probably push into Wednesday if I have to, but I'd rather not be the reason the post is late).
