We went to Briarwood yesterday around 4:00. Cordelia and I went to JC Penney's, and Scott went to one of the glasses places. He needed new frames for his safety glasses.

Cordelia and I bought several long sleeved shirts and pairs of leggings. I wasn't particularly impressed by the quality of any of it and shall be keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts the winter. Cordelia is now wearing 14/16 in shirts but still 10/12 in pants. We didn't find an acceptable white shirt at JC Penney's. Everything was either decorated or see through. There was one good style of shirt we found in the Juniors section, but they didn't have Cordelia's size.

Scott joined us as I was paying, and we decided to hike across the mall to try Sears. Sears is more difficult because, instead of having a single girls' section, it has brand by brand sections. I don't remember what brand we ended up in, but I found a white polo shirt that would work except for having the little embroidered polo player. Scott wandered elsewhere in the store while Cordelia tried on the polo shirt and came back with a nice shirt that was pretty much just what we were looking for.

Scott went looking for a flannel shirt. He found one after some searching. Cordelia was not hiding her boredom, so he stuck with getting just one. I did make him try it on before buying it; he hadn't been going to. Wandering through the men's section while Scott was trying his shirt on, I was impressed by the general quality of the shirts I saw. They were all opaque and relatively durable. Pity I couldn't persuade Cordelia to try the boys' section. She was adamantly against doing that.

We came home and ordered pizza. While we ate, we watched the latest episode of Legend of Korra. Then I spent a while cutting up possessions cards for the LARP (I'd finished putting together the folders earlier in the day). I got through between and third and half of them before sitting on the floor became too uncomfortable to endure. I'll do the rest today and find out if the glue stick Scott found still works. If it doesn't, I shall have to send Scott out after a new one.

Scott's cold is still nasty. He turned down an opportunity to go do Ingress yesterday because he thought that being out in the cold for an hour or two would be a bad idea. If there'd been an alternative, I wouldn't have made him take us to Briarwood. He really ought to be at home, drinking tea and OJ and sleeping as much as he can.

I don't understand Cordelia's objections to boys clothes. I buy men's jeans when I wear jeans because they are made more strongly and the fit is less fussy. Plus sizes don't vary the way they do in women's pants. Coverage is also better. While Leslie is a girlie girl, she has no objections to wearing boys pants or shirts if they work better.

That is interesting. I wonder what's up with that, since none of the kids (girls, anyway) I know have had issues with that. Even Griffin wears clothes that are hand-me-downs from a girl, as long as they are pants/shirt/coat... because none of that for kids is really gendered if you don't want it to be. We buy the kids clothes that are as ungendered as possible, including boots/coats from places like Tractor Supply Company. Now, yes, Leslie is developing breasts now, so she won't be able to wear boy's button-down shirts anymore (that way lies strange gaps) but she still wears tee shirts that are either boy-ish or non-gendered. In the world of the Prices, one doesn't get to be weird about what works and is cheaper, because, well, if I can buy a winter coat that's warm and what I want in terms of a hood and length, and it's a man's coat, and it's about twenty dollars (or more) cheaper than the equivalent woman's coat, you betcha I'm going to buy the cheaper coat, gender labelling be damned. Ditto boots, pants, and shirts. (Well, shirts are iffier because of the breast issue, but if I can fit into it and it works, I am going to buy it.) Obviously, I do buy women's clothing as well, because I like skirts more than pants... but as our life has played out, it's been down to practical ways to spend the money we have, so none of us Price-Parton girls care about men/boy vs. woman/girl clothes....
