Dec. 9th, 2014 08:29 amThe fudge I made the other day has kind of set. It's no longer oozing, at least. It's just very, very gooey. I think, too, that the chocolate chips didn't entirely melt because there are little chunks of chocolate. I hope to try more fudge before Sunday, but we need to eat what we've currently got before I can justify it.
Yesterday, I made something I don't have a name for-- It involves putting Rollos on waffle pretzels, one to one, and putting them in the oven at 350 for about three minutes, just long enough for the candies to soften. Then I pushed either a second pretzel or an almond into the candy, sort of flattening it. We've eaten about thirty of the sixty six I made. I put all of the ones I made with two pretzels aside for Cordelia's volleyball team. The coach plans to have a little party for the girls at practice on Thursday (normally it would be Wednesday, but the book fair will be in the gym Wednesday evening) and asked us to send 'fun snacks.'
We went out to dinner last night. The PTO had a deal with the California Pizza Kitchen at Briarwood Mall that, if we brought in a coupon, twenty percent of our bill would go to the PTO. We like the California Pizza Kitchen, so we decided to go. We also needed to pick something up at Sears, or we might not have ventured forth.
They've changed their menu (and remodeled). I had to ask the waitress which pizzas were safe for me to order; I used to be able to tell from the menu. I ended up with a wild mushroom pizza and a cup of smashed pea with barley soup. Scott got a Hawaiian barbecue pizza. Cordelia got fettucine Alfredo with chicken. Service was pretty good, and we enjoyed the food. All three of us had leftovers.
After the meal, we went to Sears to look for a garage door opener. Ours haven't worked for a while (I think they're missing, too, so Scott can't try something simple like replacing the batteries), and Scott wants to be able to use the garage while keeping the door closed most of the time. He hasn't forgotten having our snow blower stolen two years ago. Unfortunately, keeping the door closed requires that he keep getting out of the car to open and close it at the keypad by the door. He wants a remote he can keep in the car.
Sadly, the one he bought doesn't seem to work. He's not sure if he made a mistake programing it or if our system is too old to be compatible. He bought the same brand, so it's not that. He'll probably try to figure it out further this evening.
Today is going to be busy. I have to do my link finding for
metanews and cover for another link finder who has a conflict this week. I expect to spend about three hours on that. I'll also spend two (possibly three) hours at the school, helping with the book fair. Today is a preview day when kids come in and write up wishlists to give to their parents. I'll be there for some K-2 classes that the librarian expects will need a great deal of extra help. There will be some sixth graders there to help, too, but the librarian will be in the computer lab, teaching, for most of that time.
There's something weird going on with my Time Machine backups. The last successful one was on the 4th, and yesterday, it was perpetually in process of backing up without getting anywhere. Trying to shut down the backup crashed the finder so that I had to restart my laptop. I'm hoping that the restart will have reset whatever was glitching with Time Machine. I need those regular backups, particularly while I'm working on Yuletide.
