Dec. 26th, 2014 11:33 amThere's absolutely nothing I really have to do today. Well, that's not entirely true-- I need to do the check in post for
writethisfanfic, and I ought to link find for
metanews.
writethisfanfic will take maybe five minutes.
metanews will take considerably longer, perhaps as long as three hours, but I've got the time. I could probably also stand to spend some time breaking down boxes for recycling, and the kitchen floor needs to be swept. I suppose it might also be a good idea to get Cordelia started on thank you notes.
Still, I feel pretty free. The family obligation part of the holidays is over. We might still visit Scott's sister's family again this weekend so that there can be family game playing, but I can take my laptop and/or e-reader without raising comment or maybe even stay home and watch DVDs. The pressures of preparing for New Year's Eve haven't kicked in (Though I really have to remember to have Scott put the turkey to thaw as soon as he gets home).
Right now, Scott is off seeing the new Hobbit movie with our niece and brother-in-law. They went to an 11:00 show.
I haven't really poked at the Yuletide archive. I'm kind of overwhelmed by the sheer size of it. I may not even try to read much before the reveal and simply do what I did with the 2012 and 2013 archives and read a story or two every day until I've gotten through all the fandoms I know. If I read two stories a day, I'm likely to get through by May or June. I feel so much pressure, reading before the author reveal. I know that comments and kudos during this initial period mean a lot to authors, but I'm not sure I can do it.
I'm kind of missing Christmas music today. I play it entirely so that I can sing along, and I enjoy that. I think Cordelia got sick of what I was playing even though she was rarely in the same room with me.
I am surprised that I didn't get any clothes for Christmas. I think it's that Scott didn't look at my Amazon wishlist when deciding what to buy (He says it was too big, that he couldn't tell what was important) and that Scott's parents weren't willing to shop at any website besides Amazon. All the clothing was from other sites. I'll have to buy those things for myself, I guess. There are some things, mainly the socks from Sock Dreams, that I'm not sure I can justify buying for myself, no matter how pretty they are. Target's knee socks aren't cotton or particularly pretty, but they are fairly cheap.
Scott's parents gave me a book (Steven Brust's Hawk) and a DVD (a Seventh Doctor DVD, I think it was The Greatest Show in the Galaxy). Cordelia gave me a gift certificate for the nearby bookstore. I have no idea what I'll spend it on. I'm not really buying books these days because I just don't read them. Scott gave me a John Prine CD, three packages of mochi, and a set of Middleman graphic novels he got through (I think) an IndieGoGo campaign.
Scott's parents gave us a bunch of ornaments that are too heavy for their new tree (this year, they went from a roughly eight foot tree to a six foot tree, all artificial of course, as is ours). I'm not sure why they think we'll be able to use the ornaments. Our tree is the same size as their new one. I do like the idea of new ornaments, though. Half of what's on our tree is multi-colored, unbreakable bulbs that I find rather dull. We have more of those than we can fit on the tree, and I always feel like they lack personality. Still, they were really nice when Cordelia was small because she'd have had to work very hard to break one. They're not actively ugly. I just want more. I grew up with a lot of odd ornaments, so that's what I expect.
