Dec. 28th, 2014 02:12 pmScott and Cordelia have gone off to Target so that she can spend the gift card she got from Scott's sister's in-laws. It should be enough to get a game for her 2DS. They didn't invite me along. I wasn't even clear that they were leaving until suddenly they were gone. Scott wanted to make the trip before the library run because he's got about an hour and a half left on his book on CD which is due today. He wants to finish as much of it as possible. (He'll probably put the remaining tracks on his laptop so that he can listen to them later today.) We can't renew it because there's a long waitlist.
I feel a bit like I failed-- I got a non-fiction book that I wanted to read via interlibrary loan. I've had it for six weeks, and I never opened. I can't renew it again, either, so back it goes today. I hope I haven't missed anything that would have really interested me. Of course, I have graphic novels that are due today that I have had to renew because I haven't even opened them. I have two books due next Sunday that can't be renewed that I also haven't opened.
Although I've written very little this year, two of my stories, the Narnia one for Not Prime Time and the mystery one for Yuletide have garnered a lot more positive feedback than is usual for my stories. The Narnia story, Not All My Grief, is probably, in terms of the ratio between hits, kudos and comments, the most popular thing I've written, and the Yuletide story is doing pretty darn well for something in an obscure fandom. (My third story, my Remix in The Avengers fandom, has very few hits and very few kudos. I think it got buried by the sheer number of other fics in the fandom that were posted in between when I posted it and when it went live. There were a couple of weeks there. I didn't even think about changing the posting date. I should have.)
I wanted to write several chapters of Rheotaxis this year, and I didn't even make a dent on the next chapter. I think I've got a couple of starting points to try, and I'm going to see if I can find people to do writing sprints/word wars with. I have the impression that the Yuletide IRC has people in it all year round, so maybe some of them will be willing to write with me. I need to spit out some words on this chapter. I'm not going to find the shape of it until I've written a lot of stuff that won't make it into the finished chapter. It's a bigger canvas than I'm used. I tend to like scenes that are so tightly focused that they're almost claustrophobic, and I can't do that here.
