Dec. 30th, 2014 12:35 pmThe other night (I think it was Sunday, but I'm not sure), Scott and I watched the DVD of the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars show that I gave him for Christmas. We were pleased to discover that some of the additional episodes on the DVD were new to us. Two of them, in particular, appealed to us-- In one, Dr Doofenschmirtz has to teach high school science at his daughter's school. In the other, there's a follow up to event in the 2nd dimension with the heroes of the resistance facing a new foe. Either one, we thought, would be a great thing for the show to do more of as both seem to have a lot of possibilities for further stories.
I spent a considerable chunk of yesterday link finding for
metanews, and I have at least another hour's worth of work to do in that direction, possibly more. There are two blogs that I still have to do, and those two tend to contain a lot of linkable meta. My big difficulty here is that I didn't (although I intended to) link find last week. We didn't post last week because of the holiday, so I didn't absolutely have to. I wanted to so that I wouldn't be facing hours and hours of work, but somehow, I never quite got around to it.
I'm planning to try to get the other
metanews moderators to discuss a couple of issues. First, there's podcasts. A fair number of them come up on our blog feeds, and it's really hard to tell, without listening to each one, whether or not they're meta. I tend to default to linking, and the other blog feed link finder tends to default to not linking. Nobody has the time to actually listen to all these podcasts in order to make more informed decisions, and there's no official policy on them. I kind of think we should ask our readers what they want.
Second, there's the issue of journal articles. Our classification labels currently are AO3, Tumblr, LiveJournal, DreamWidth, and blog. Articles published in places like Vanity Fair don't really fit any of those categories. Also, while they're definitely meta, they're not precisely fannish even when they deal with topics that fans might write about. I've been linking such things and labeling them 'journal,' but I'm not sure that's what I should be doing. I mean, I don't see why we couldn't add an official category in that direction; the other options are, first, to label such links as blogs or, second, not to link to such things at all. I tend to think that we should be linking such things because they're part of the dialogue that's going on and because it's interesting to see what people outside of immediate fannish circles are saying.
I ought to spend a lot of time today on cleaning. The dining room table has to be clear by this time tomorrow, and it's currently buried deep. There's other cleaning to do, but at least some of it will have to wait until tomorrow as it consists largely of stuffing excess junk into our bedroom and closing the door. We can't reach our bed when all that stuff is in there, and we will want to sleep some time tonight.
Scott really, really wants Cordelia to clean her room. I don't feel nearly as strongly about it. I don't go in there much. I mean, there's a lot of stuff she could stand to get rid of-- Her dresser drawers won't close because they're full of things that she never wears and that no longer fit. I need to corner her one of these days and go through her clothes so that we can donate what she no longer wears. Her closets haven't been usable for a couple of years because they're full of stuff from when she was younger, stuff she no longer wants but can't be bothered to dig out and look at and get rid of. Still, as far as Cordelia's room goes, I tend to think it's her space and she should be allowed to do what she wants with it as long as it's not actively dangerous.
Scott's employer is teasing us with the possibility of him having tomorrow off. They don't plan any production, but they may still make everybody come in anyway, probably to clean. I've got my fingers crossed that he'll be home. The whole day would be infinitely easier if he were; I just can't count on it.
