Scott slept until about noon yesterday. While he was sleeping, I made the sweet potatoes (minced ginger, lemon juice and a tablespoon of sugar) and the stuffing. I couldn't get the stuffing to turn out the way I wanted it to-- Too much of it came out crunchy for my taste. I used a lot of chicken broth trying to remedy that, but it didn't help.

I put the turkey in about 1:00. We cooked it breast down because that tends, in our experience, to keep the breast meat moist. We brought it out of the oven around 5:00, before [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl and her daughter arrived, but it was still reasonably warm when we finally ate, around 6:00. I couldn't have gotten the turkey out of the oven on my own. The roasting pan Scott bought was flimsy enough that lifting by the edges wasn't safe, and I couldn't manage to get underneath it. It also wasn't quite large enough; our smaller roasting rack didn't fit very well and tended to wobble. The turkey was completely contained, though, no drippings on the floor of the oven.

We invited [livejournal.com profile] booniverse and her husband to join us, but they declined. I can understand the appeal of an evening in given how busy the holidays generally are, but we'd have liked to have them.

After dinner, the three of us adults played Elder Sign, a cooperative game Scott bought us for Christmas, while the kids played Metroid and Mario Kart. We had some trouble figuring out the rules for Elder Sign, but I think, by the end, we had it reasonably mastered. I'm not entirely sure, though. We won the game with far less trouble than we'd anticipated having.

After that, Scott and [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl played a game she'd brought that was called something like Solstice or something similar. That continued until it was time for Scott and Cordelia to take her friend home at 10:00. After they got back, everybody but me played some version of Fluxx or another. Then, I think they played a round of Timeline.

That finished between 11:50 and 11:55, so we poured sparkling juice for everyone and turned on the TV to watch the countdown. We toasted the New Year when it came. Then [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl and her daughter went home. Cordelia was really wound up and had no intention of sleeping, so Scott stayed up with her while I headed for bed. It was around 1:00 when I turned out the lights and 2:00 by the time Scott joined me.

I woke this morning about 10:30 which surprised me, given how late I got to sleep. I'm waiting for Scott to be awake so that I can shower (I can shower without waking him. I just can't get dressed afterwards without rousing him. I'm not minded to sit around, wet and naked, waiting for him to wake up). My only plan for today is to answer the comments I've gotten on my Yuletide story, post said story to my website and to fanfiction.net, and announce the dratted thing here. That seems like something I can reasonably accomplish.
