the_rckI'm up very early for a Sunday. I just couldn't get back to sleep after I took my thyroid medicine at 5:00, so at about 7:15, I gave up and got up. Scott's still sleeping, and I don't have clothes out here because I didn't expect to be up before him, so I'm going to get pretty cold by the time he gets up. Ah, well. I suppose I could have stayed in bed even if I wasn't sleeping.
I am debating what to do on school mornings. Cordelia would like me to stay in bed and let her get herself ready for school in peace. She's also started coming in right before she leaves for a hug. I don't know, though. I kind of miss getting my day started early. Maybe I could get up at 7:00 and stay in bed with a book for an hour. I could use the reading time; when I'm up and about, I tend to be too distracted to read. I'm not sure how I'd feel about putting off my morning coffee for an hour, but I expect I could do it.
Yesterday, Scott and Cordelia went out to buy her some new snowpants. She's hoping to go sledding some time soon (assuming the snow holds out which it may not), and her old snowpants were very definitely too small-- Not only did they show her ankles but they also wouldn't zip up even halfway. It's apparently late enough in the season that snowpants, boots, coats, etc. are gone from the stores. (That amazes me because we'll need that stuff through some time in March.) They went to several different places and ended up at REI where they found a pair on clearance.
They also took the remainder of the stuff to donate to the PTO Thrift Shop. Hopefully, it will all find good homes. It's nice to have all the bags and boxes gone, and Cordelia's room really looks much, much better.
I've roughed out some aspects and stunts for Scott's Agents of FATE game. I still need to come up with a succinct way to express one of my character's aspects-- She's a New Age/Neo-Pagan magick practitioner. She's solitary rather than attached to any group. First, I want to keep it simple for Scott, and second, I don't want to affiliate her with a version of any real group. Affiliating her with a real group would require a heck of a lot of research and still might not be respectful. I suppose I could make up a group out of whole cloth, but I think being solitary is better. I suppose I could call that aspect 'solitary practitioner,' but I'm not sure it would convey information to Scott.
My high concept is 'renaissance woman.' My trouble is 'I've seen too much.' The other two aspects are 'doctor' (I might want something punchier as a way of expressing that. I don't know) and 'nobody dies on my watch.'
My stunts are still vague-- The first one relates to the high concept and is something about either having read a book about that once or having tried doing that once. I'm not sure which. The high concept seems to call for a combination of the two, so I'll have to consult with Scott. The second stunt is a specialization in medicine. The third stunt is still pretty much undefined. It has to have something to do with the character's practice of magick, both because it makes sense and because Scott is requiring that magic that works within the game have both an aspect and a stunt.
I will be losing the research skills that the previous version of the character had. This character's medical background is more likely to come from being in an ER or, possibly, from being a combat medic (though I'm not sure that last fits with actually being a doctor). I'm going to have to consider my skills very carefully. I think they may be quite a bit different from those I took with the first version of the character. That character was angled toward empathy and observation and, just a bit, toward manipulation. I think this version may have more skill in things like fighting and shooting. It will depend on the backstory I work out with Scott.
Four people have voted in the what should I write next poll. Right now, the further adventures of Digory and Polly is winning. I'm going to leave the poll open for a few days and probably keep mentioning it because I know a lot of people don't check DW/LJ on the weekends. I think anonymous comments are allowed on my DW, but I couldn't swear to it. If they're not, feel free to comment on my LJ if you want to vote but can't on DW.
