Feb. 12th, 2015 11:29 amDrat. I forgot to call my step-father last night. It was his birthday yesterday, and I'm usually very good about that. Oh, well. He and Mom still haven't called me for my birthday last May, so I suppose one day off won't be a big deal.
Yesterday, around 11:30, my friend, Leah, came to visit. The point of her visit was for her to borrow the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie, but she stayed for two or three hours, and we talked. We enjoy some of the same books and movies, but our approaches to them are quite different. She tends to like the villains and want to see them as abused victims who can be saved by the love of the heroes. I tend to see villains as people to be opposed and stopped and who are likely to make more trouble if given the opportunity. I guess I'm less forgiving than she is.
We talked about our kids and her job search (her current job will vanish in another two months and has only been part time for the last several months). We also talked about some things going on with her parents that had her stressed out.
I did no new writing. I did tweak a couple of documents a bit, but I'm not sure I improved them. I need to produce some new words on some project or another or I'm going to feel like I haven't accomplished anything this week.
I need to figure out what we're taking to the family gathering this weekend. Scott's sister plans to serve venison stew (I have no idea how that fits with her only eat 'fresh' meat thing. Isn't venison usually aged a good long while before serving?). Making a loaf of bread seems like the most logical thing, but if I do that, Scott's sister and mother won't be able to eat it. That's two people out of the twelve who'll be there, though, so maybe it shouldn't matter.

Date: 2015-02-13 02:40 pm (UTC)Due to Scott's father's diabetes, Scott's mother and sister have started preparing all desserts with Splenda in spite of the fact that I can't eat it at all. The other things I know will be available are deviled eggs (I can't eat them, and Cordelia won't eat them) and venison stew (whether or not I can eat it depends on what else is in it, and Cordelia is unwilling even to try it).
Basically, Scott and I can either take a loaf of bread or we can take a salad, and I don't think I can make a satisfying meal out of lettuce and carrots alone. A single slice of bread wouldn't be much better, but it would be a little.
