Delia has decided that she wants to be called 'Delia' rather than 'Cordelia.' She'll accept Cordelia at school and from people who don't know her well, but she's adamant that I should call her Delia. I'm still working on adjusting to that. It took weeks, if not months, to make the switch three years ago, going from Delia to Cordelia. I expect it to take at least that long to make the switch back.

I'm going to start by making the switch here. If I can remember when writing, it'll be a step toward remembering when I'm speaking.

Delia still hates her swim class. Last week, the class was half the size it was during the first session, so all the kids got more individualized attention. One of the teachers spent a lot of time with Delia, trying to persuade her to put her face in the water just once. She's quite opposed to the notion. I'm hopeful that she'll manage it once by the end of the class, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if she refuses. She stubborn.

The first session of Chinese class seems to have gone well. Delia's really looking forward to the next session. They did color words during the first session, last Tuesday.

Thursday was the informational meeting for the Science Olympiad. I'm intimidated by all the material I'm supposed to teach the kids for my event. They'll have to identify a bunch of rocks and answer questions about them. I don' t have sample rocks, so we'll have to work from books. Supposedly, we'll get a set to use for one week some time later on. The folks running the event have a few sets and will rotate them between the teams. I hope we get them at a point when they'll be useful.

I've purchased some books on rocks. Hopefully those and the material from the Science Olympiad website will be enough. I've got four kids, two second graders and two third graders, to coach through the event. I thought about trying to get the recommended books from the library, but there are a lot of teams competing for those books. I wanted some that I wouldn't have to return. I didn't buy everything on the list. I'll put holds on the other books and use them during the four weeks I can get them (assuming I can get them at all before June).

We almost forgot to go to the informational meeting. I remembered it about ten minutes before we needed to be heading out the door. We didn't even have time for all of us to have dinner. I got some food for Delia. We detoured to Wendy's to get something for me, and I ate while we were driving to the school where the meeting was. Scott and Delia went for food while I was at the meeting. Afterward, we went to Plum Market for desserts. Unfortunately, the cupcake Delia picked out turned out not to be very good. The woman behind the counter at Plum Market used to work at Bello Vino before it closed, and she recognized Delia from when she used to go shopping there with Scott every week.

Delia's friend from Korea goes back on the 14th. His last day of school is the 11th, and she's labeled that as the saddest day ever. I'm not looking forward to the probable tears. We had the boy and his younger brother over for a playdate yesterday. All three kids had fun, and Scott got some pictures.
