I just got a call from the clinician I saw today. He told me that the radiologist confirms the existence of a fracture (and could see it on two of the x-rays as opposed to the one where the clinician thought he saw something). They're referring me to a specialist because this sort of fracture-- with a little piece of bone kind of floating off away from everything-- doesn't always resolve without surgery. I'm to wear the boot for at least four weeks.

On the plus side, I no longer have to go see the original clinician on the 1st. That would have made three appointments in one week, and I was expecting that week to really run me ragged. (Even apart from the appointments, that week promises to be stressful. Cordelia's school has a major event on Tuesday, and Friday starts spring break, so I'll have three kids all day.) Of course, watch-- The specialist will want to see me that week. It seems unlikely as they usually have long wait times, but it's possible. A fracture seems like something that needs attention faster than, say, a revisit for GERD (I just scheduled one of those for September).

I'm sorry your visit to the doctor proved needed, but I'm glad you got it checked. I hope it does resolve on its own without surgery!

I would expect to see a specialist faster than that for a fracture.

Aw, nuts. I hope it's easily dealt with. I'm sorry to hear you have to wear that boot thing. :(

Augh! I hope it pulls itself together without surgical assistance and heals fast and well.

One thing that we often hear in the celiac community is that when there is a bone fracture without overwhelming force (eg. not a car accident or other major force acting on your body), then they should be doing some checking of your bone density, to make sure that there isn't another underlying problem that you need to be aware of. If you haven't had a bone density scan, it might be time.

ah, years ago as a teenager I created a floating chip over my knee cap in bike accident. It's still there. Baby it, keep it propped and don't poke at the chip to much if you can actually feel where it's at.

Those boots are a pain in the arse though. :( sorry to hear you banged yourself up that bad!
