When I went to UHS yesterday, I took a cab. For some reason, the trip there was $9.25 while the trip back was $8.75. They charge by distance rather than by time, so I'm very surprised that there was any difference at all. Maybe they charged me less for the return trip because the pick up point was on central campus and so near lots of other things, but that doesn't really make sense to me. Who knows? The cab to go there arrived in under ten minutes. The cab to come home took about half an hour to arrive. Fortunately, it wasn't horribly cold, and the boot makes standing still not too painful.

There were a lot fewer people at UHS than I expected. I'm used to seeing all of the waiting rooms at least half full, and they simply weren't. I wonder how much of that is due to them no longer doing walk in appointments most of the time. It's still possible to get a same day appointment, but one has to jump through an awful lot of hoops to convince them that it's necessary. When I called yesterday, they tried to put me off until Tuesday.

The x-rays were awkward because getting my foot and ankle into exactly the right position and holding there was challenging. I count myself fortunate, though-- I was afraid I'd have to sit through the lunch hour before getting my x-rays, but there was someone working. I suspect she had her lunch at a different time.

There was a miscommunication with the nurses who were to give me the boot/brace. At first, they gave me a lace up ankle brace that hurt so much that I decided almost immediately that I would simply go back to the Ace bandage when I got home. Fortunately, the PA I had seen came back from lunch while I was outside, waiting for a cab. He was appalled by what they'd given me because it was about the worst thing for my foot. It put the wrong sort of pressure right on the point where things hurt most. He got the nurses to give me the right brace. Fortunately, they refunded what I'd paid for the first brace. I was afraid they wouldn't since I'd worn it which probably means they can't give it to anyone else.

Scott is working today. There was a chance that he'd have to work 3 a.m. to 3 p.m., but they called about 10:30 to tell him that they didn't need him to come in until 7:00. He's expecting more weekend overtime for a while because there's a particular machine that's been broken for quite a while that's just been fixed. That machine is his area of expertise, the one he knows best, so he's often the first choice to run it.

I finally talked to my mother and sisters about the stupid lump. The older of my two sisters and my mother both apparently have very fibrous breast tissue so that, at certain times, they pretty much always have lots and lots of lumps, lumps that come and go. (My other sister is a half-sister on my father's side.) My sister had her first mammogram at 24. She just didn't tell anybody. I don't think this has much to do with me as my breast tissue seems to be more normal. Mom is of the opinion that my lump is probably a cyst because there's no history of breast cancer on either side of the family, going back at least to my great-grandparents. I suppose I'll find out.
