As I go through the week, I tend to collect the urls of things I happen across that I think might fit a [community profile] metanews post. I think it's just part of being a link finder. This week, though, I've got over a dozen links about the situation with the Hugo nominees. That seems like a lot on the same subject, but I don't want to try to judge which are the most informative or which have the best discussions or whatever. I'm inclined to think that we should include them but, instead of putting them all under 'General Fandom,' should make a category for 'Hugo Awards' under 'Specific Fandoms.'

I'm torn, though-- I feel like, if we're going to link essays about the Hugos at all, we should probably link something from the Sad Puppies/Rabid Puppies side, but I'll be damned if I'm willing to go looking for that. From what I've gathered, I'd be thoroughly disgusted by what I found, and I'm reluctant to send traffic to such places by linking to them.

And, on a completely different topic, I should try calling Cordelia (probably just to find out that she left her phone at home). She and the other tow kids went out to the park about 45 minutes ago. They said they'd be gone 30 minutes. I'm not particularly worried, but I would like them to come home when they said they would. Of course, if Cordelia left her phone at home, they have no way to measure time.

I strongly disagree with the SP's real life politics, and with their associations with Gamergate, etc. But accusing them of being the ones to bring politics into SF seems unfair.

For quite a while, I've seen collections of stories advertised as "all by women", "all by POC's" etc -- and individual books and authors reviewed beginning with "As a POC/post-colonial woman etc, X presents that experience", and/or praised for their (SJW) politics. And weren't people encouraged to buy and nominate and vote for Leckie's novel because of her own gender in real life and lack of gender in pronouns? And some (whom I agree were) Rabid Weasels kicked off a SFWA pubication and a call went out to get SF away from all their ilk?

And Tempest K. Bradford wrote a piece recommending we should read no White Male Authored books for a year.

So the other side writes up a slate of suggested nominees -- and THEY'RE the ones accused of bringing politics into SF fandom?
