Scott got us lunch from the bagel place. I had chicken with guacamole and mushrooms. Cordelia had (as she always does) a BLT. I have no idea what Scott had, but he usually gets some sort of chicken.

Cordelia walked herself home from Girl Scouts. We weren't sure if she would because she has always preferred getting a ride (which is ridiculous when it's nice weather as it's only three blocks). She didn't say anything about how the meeting went, but the things the leader had planned didn't sound very interesting. She had originally wanted to take the girls geocaching, but the mother who was to lead that had some sort of last minute scheduling conflict.

I frosted Cordelia's cake while she was at Girl Scouts. For once, the top of the cake didn't come up when I applied frosting. I was glad of that as, though it doesn't affect the taste in the slightest, that always looks kind of nasty.

I put on my boot for the party because I can stand for longer while wearing that, but as it turned out, I didn't get up at all during the party. Scott and his sister managed everything.

The girls played Telestrations first. Then Cordelia opened her presents. Then they all went outside to play with the bubble wands Scott had bought (he let the girls take those home if they wanted, but most of them didn't so we have four or five of them in our kitchen sink). The sky was threatening rain, but that held off until about 9 p.m. When the girls came in, they had cake and ice cream. Then they played Mario Kart until their parents came to get them.

Our family tradition is that the person having a birthday gets to pick a place to go out for dinner. Cordelia couldn't come up with any place she wanted to go, so we started suggesting places. She ended up choosing Olga's which, well, we usually go to more expensive places for birthdays. Scott offered to stop at Orange Leaf for fro-yo after dinner, but Cordelia was too full for that. Also, we'd all gotten smoothies, and Scott and Cordelia hadn't finished theirs. They both seemed a little unhappy with what they got-- They said there was too much banana. Their leftover smoothies are in the freezer now.

After we got home, Cordelia opened her presents. She wasn't particularly interested in the new iPad mini Scott had bought her because her old one kept shutting itself off. She told us that her old one had stopped doing that since she took it out of the case and that she therefore didn't need a new one. We'll probably use the new one to stream content to our TV, or, at least, that's what Scott thinks we'll do with it. Who knows?

Cordelia did like all of her other presents. We got her a Teen Titans Go! DVD, some Kelly Clarkson CDs, a book, and some rubber bands for her Rainbow Loom.

Cordelia went into her room briefly after that then came out and told us that she knows there won't be many more birthdays with us and that she wanted to do something with us. She and Scott played one of our Lego games for an hour or so while I watched.

Cordelia is now 5'2". That's as tall as the measuring board Scott's parents gave us when she was tiny goes, so I'm not sure how we'll measure her height from here on out. I'm still half an inch taller than she is, so she's determined to grow at least a bit taller. I'm not sure she will since, by the time I was her age, I'd reached my full height. I hope she does, though.

Scott's hoping he'll only have to work late one night this week. They've been training two new people for second shift, and he thinks they'll be starting to actually work second shift this week which would mean only two slots to cover every day. Scott's also really hoping that everything runs smoothly at work this week. If it does, they'll probably have the whole weekend off, and that will mean a four day weekend for him since he has scheduled that Tuesday as a vacation day. It's my birthday, and he wanted to spend the day with me. (We will have to go to the Secretary of State's office for my driver's license renewal, but I'm hopeful that that won't take too dreadfully long.)

Cordelia is two inches taller than me. Neat!

You probably know this, but professional cake frosters put on a first coating of frosting, called a "crumb coating" and let it harden in the fridge before they add a second coat of frosting that is visible on the outside. The crumb coating seals in the bits of cake that would otherwise probably come off and look nasty in the frosting. I've tried this a couple of times and found that it really does work, so I plan to continue doing it. For whatever that's worth.

Happy nearly birthday!
