::laughs:: I just got an email from one of Cordelia's teachers. They're planning to show the kids two movies between now and the end of the school year and are giving parents the chance to opt their kids out. That's not the part that amuses me-- The movies are Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Coraline. The kids will be expected to write an essay comparing the movies to books they've read.

Arlo's history teacher recently showed them Forest Gump. Arlo says it covers more American history than we might realize. I am skeptical, but intrigued.

I've never seen "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," so I have no idea if it is educational. Coraline is pretty creepy, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kendra's friend Erin is the one who suggested it.

The kids will probably enjoy the movies. At least, I hope so. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure may be too dated for their taste. It's about a couple of high school kids who want to form a band and are about to flunk out. There's time traveler from the future who comes back to help them pass because their band will be world shatteringly important in the future. The teenagers use the time machine to bring various people from the past into the present in an effort to complete the assignment that will decide whether or not they pass.

I think the book of Coraline is considered a modern classic of fantasy (I didn't much enjoy it, but I don't like Gaiman's work in general) so that watching the movie makes some sense in the context of studying fantasy. I think most of the kids have read the book.

I did not know that's what Bill and Ted was about. Now I am curious to watch it!
