Our air conditioner seems to have died entirely. We had the thermostat set for 80F, and although the system was actively running, it was warmer than that in here. We left the fan on and opened a bunch of windows. It was, fortunately, very cool outside last night (probably in the 60s), so it's 74F in here right now.

As soon as I've finished my coffee and had breakfast, I'll call the folks we've been dealing with for our heating and cooling for years. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to stick with them or shop around. We trust them which is important, but this is going to cost us thousands of dollars, so I probably ought to talk to more than one place. They were the best deal when we had to replace our furnace ten or so years ago, however.

I'm concerned. I haven't heard back from the friend who was going to take a look at my Remix. She said she'd take a look on Sunday, and that's well passed. She probably got busy, but I wish she'd let me know. I may have to just assume that Scott's read through is enough and go with what I've got. Goodness knows that, by this point, I don't have time to add two or three thousand more words even if the plot does need to be continued (which I think it might, but Scott disagrees because I've covered everything that happens in the original story).

I'm still dithering about signing up for an exchange. I think I've missed the nomination period for most of those that interest me. It's entirely likely that one of the exchanges-- Parallels-- won't have very many fandoms I could offer or request. (Looking at the tag set, I think I actually could do it. There are several fandoms I'd have expected to be too large that I know and could write.) Crossovering and Fic Corner both have fandoms in the tag set that I could write. I just don't know if I want to. The Narnia Fic Exchange is, I believe, still doing nominations, but that's the one where I'm least worried about being able to find something to write or request.

I may try writing more on the remix today. I probably have time. Probably. I do have a couple of envelopes from Social Security that I need to open and then deal with the contents of. One of them, I know what it is, and it's going to require that I search for a particular document that I've lost track of. The other, I have no idea at all. My best guess is that it's paperwork I'm going to have to somehow get to my doctor. Maybe, if that's what it is, I can go into town for that today. Cordelia could stay here. (I can't actually close the open windows on my own, so someone has to be here.)

Cordelia has put holds on thirteen books on the library website. About six of them should come in today. I don't know how many of the others will arrive before Sunday. The library website is still claiming that holds for downtown will be at Traverwood, but we know that's not true because Scott picked up holds downtown on Sunday.

Scott has a phone interview today. I'm not entirely sure what sort of job it's for. My fear is that it's telemarketing (which is one of the few things likely to be worse than what he's doing now), but I'm hoping it's not. One of his coworkers has a son who works for this company and got Scott the interview. Anyway, good thoughts our way this afternoon/evening will be greatly appreciated.

so many good thoughts!!!

also boo air conditioning breaking!

we have had super good luck finding people via angie's list (and they also sometimes have angie's list coupon type things?). i don't know if you can spring for a subscription or if someone you know in your area has one (they don't transfer via geographic location), but can recommend. It's also how I've been finding dr's lately. Also if you have an issue with someone, Angie's list can help mediate I hear? IDK.

I think we've had one crappy painter, and pretty much everyone else has been great. Plus the motivation to get further business via more good Angie's list reviews is a very good motivator.
