Jun. 22nd, 2015 09:43 amI did end up taking a book to yesterday's gathering, and I read a fair amount. We were down in the basement for about the first hour, and I saw a fair number of ants. These were medium sized black ants. I'm assuming that Scott's sister and her husband know they're there because I know that the family spends a lot of time downstairs, and I think the ants would be hard to miss.
Scott and I both forgot to bring sausages that I could eat (dinner yesterday was bratwurst which tend to give me trouble), so Scott's sister and I made a trip to Kroger to pick some up. She bought some other things, too, so it wasn't a trip just for sausages. My foot and ankle held up pretty well for the trip. I'd like to find other short trips that I can make so that I can rebuild a bit.
Apparently, our nephew got in a car accident on Saturday. He's fine, but the car isn't in great shape. He was on a back road, a dirt road, that he thought went through but didn't, so he was turning around when something in the car fell onto the floor. He's sixteen and new to driving, so he bent over to look without stopping the car. The car went into a ditch (fortunately a dry, shallow one) and hit a tree. He got lucky-- The police officer who showed up (after his parents arrived) didn't give him a ticket, just a warning.
I got my father on the phone yesterday. He was just about to leave the house, so we didn't talk for very long. He complained a bit about the weather where he is (a bit south of Albuquerque) and mentioned that they'd hoped to go to an outdoor blues festival but decided against it because of the heat.
I tried to reach my step-father. My mother told me that he's actually in Michigan right now, with their dogs. They did manage to buy the house they were looking at, and he's there now, getting started on the renovations. Mom is having some computer issues because he took their main computer and she can't figure out how to get the information she saved from the back up to the new machine.
I called my step-father's cell twice and ended up leaving a voicemail. Mom tells me that he often turns off his cell and forgets to turn it back on (Mom does this, too, or used to). I'm going to try sending him an email later today. Mom says he checks those several times a day.
Our wedding anniversary is coming up on Friday, and I'm trying to find a way to have Cordelia spend the night elsewhere. Unfortunately, Scott's sister can't take her because they're leaving for a trip on Saturday. Scott's mother hasn't gotten back to me, and I worry that, even if Scott's parents are able to take her, Cordelia won't want to go because she'll say it's boring with just her and them. I have a couple of other options I can try, but it may just simply not be meant to happen. We have plenty of options if we want someone to take her just for dinner, but Scott and I would really like some time with the house to ourselves.
I am a little frustrated with Amazon. Scott has Amazon Prime, and he tried, a while back, to set it up so that I could get the free two day shipping, too, but as far as I can tell, that hasn't worked at all. I just placed an order on Saturday (stuff for Scott for an anniversary present), and Amazon only offered me free shipping if I either signed up for Prime myself or was willing to wait a week.
Scott didn't get around to either the laundry or buying bagels for Cordelia's breakfasts yesterday. That means that Cordelia is going to be responsible for both chores. She likes the idea of walking to the bagel shop, but I fear she'll put it off so late that there won't be anything left that she'll want. She's not at all enthusiastic about the laundry, but it really has to be done, and it only takes 5-10 minutes every hour or two. We have four loads to be done.
Cordelia's still trying to talk me into letting her walk to the downtown library, and I'm still trying to persuade her to take the bus instead. Her argument is that the walk will be good exercise and that the bus is too difficult for her. My argument is that there are too many busy streets on the way and that she needs to learn to ride the bus anyway.
