I have tendinitis in my rotator cuff. The doctor and I are at a complete loss as to what could have caused this. If it had happened back in March when I was using the walker, it would have made sense, but all I did yesterday was type, put dishes in the dishwasher, and move my laptop from the living room to the dining room. Those are not things that would be likely to set off tendinitis, especially not in my shoulder.

At any rate, she gave me a prescription for some naproxen, several exercises to do one to three times a day, and instructions to ice the spot regularly for four or five days and then to apply heat to it regularly after that. If it's not better in three weeks, I'm to come back. She would prefer I see one of the doctors who does sports medicine but said that, if I can't get in to see one of them, I should see either her or my primary care doctor. She said that, at that point, it's likely that I'd end up referred for physical therapy.

Back when I was still working, I used to get tendinitis at least twice a year in various parts of my body (foot, shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee). I'd usually have about six weeks of pain and limited activity (and, often, PT) and then recover. Since I stopped working, I haven't really had tendinitis trouble except once, right after Cordelia was born, when I did a number on my knee by climbing into bed, repeatedly, in a different way than I was used to.
