the_rckI just got an email from my mother, telling me that my sister's surgery is scheduled for the 23rd. Mom will be going to Atlanta for a few weeks to look after my sister while she recovers. Mom didn't say whether my sister is having one breast removed or both. I will have to ask.
At any rate, this probably means that Cordelia and I will not be traveling across the state to visit with my side of the family. My mother and my sister and her family won't be there. My step-father will be, and so will my brother, but it was really to see Mom that I wanted to go. The reason to go the first week in August was that one of my parents' former exchange students (they had four or five over the years) will be visiting with his wife and kids. My parents liked the idea of getting the whole family together while Matt and his family were there. It's just... I barely know Matt. He seems like a very nice person, and I know my parents and my brother got really attached to him while he lived with them, but I was not there. I only met him once or twice.
I'm not sure it's worthwhile for me to haul myself and Cordelia and all of our stuff onto a train to travel to a place where there will be no internet and only spotty cell phone coverage (there was one point in the yard where I could get a signal. Nobody else could get anything at all) in order to see people neither of us know.
My step-father will be there later in the month (well, maybe not. Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't know when fall term starts for LSU), and my brother lives twenty minutes away from the house my parents have bought. I think I'd rather hold off on going over there in hopes that my mother will be back in time for us to see her before school starts. It may not work out, of course, and I expect my brother will be disappointed-- He's probably scheduled time off that week.
I just-- I was daunted before, but I was going to power through for the chance to see everybody, but now... Yeah.
