Jul. 7th, 2015 05:50 pmMy father just called to let me know that Grandma is out of surgery. She's still unconscious, but the doctors say the operation went well. She'll still spend several weeks in a rehab facility, of course, but she should be okay. My father doesn't know what hospital she's currently in or what facility she'll be going to, just that she'll be transferred on Friday.
I'll probably end up calling my cousin who lives up there to ask for addresses and phone numbers. He will certainly know all of that as he's likely to be one of the people making arrangements. My uncle would, but he can't travel very far without a lot of pain, so it's entirely possible that he's not even at the hospital. I know he'd want to be, and that desire may have moved him to suffer through the drive, but his son and wife may also have insisted that he stay home.
I've gotten very little accomplished today. I did the dishes, and that's about it. I just couldn't focus.
I hope we can figure out a way to visit Grandma during the time Scott's off of work this month. My sister is desperate to visit, but there's no way she can, given her own surgery and the expected recovery time. She did end up telling our father about her breast cancer because she felt she had to in order to justify not flying up there immediately. She hadn't told him before because she was afraid he'd tell Grandma who, naturally enough, would worry.

Date: 2015-07-11 11:29 pm (UTC)When we get back from our vacation, we'll try to get up there to visit her. It's three hours each way, so we could, in theory, do a one day trip, but I'd rather find a place to stay overnight. I'm just not sure about that because it's a tourist trap of a town, right on Lake Huron, and everything really fills up this time of year.
I suppose I should use Google to see what's available.
